Hi all

Ive got a few issues with my new Ibiza, just wondering if anyone could clear a few of them up.

My Ibiza is the 1.9tdi sport 53 reg

First issue I have is with the glow plug indicator light on the dashboard-it dosent seem to have one. Ive looked in the owners manual and I know what im supposed to be looking out for (little twirly light) but it just never appears even when im starting it cold.

Second issue is the passenger airbag light lights up for about 2 seconds when I turn the ignition on then after a few seconds it goes off, I was just wondering if thats right?

Third and final question, On the dash there seems to be a little spanner icon and a flashing INSP when the car is running. I know it means it needs a service but its just had one from the garage we bought it from and im sure they have just forgot to reset it, is there any way I could reset it or can only a main Seat dealer do this? I also get a little beeping alarm every 20 miles or so is this ascociated with the service indicator?

I did have another question about the auto boot lock/unlock not working but ive figured out how to do this now by pressing the remote lock twice.

My wife worrys to much and if these little niggles dont get sorted soon I think her head will explode so any pointers would be great.

Thanks in advance

M

1st issue - Yeah that should light up each time u start the car even when warm (even for a quick second, watch closely)- thats dodgy/weird if not (If it starts okay it might just be a blown bulb - not to be a scare mongre but that is the symbol that warns of a brake defect - just lights or brake switch on the foot pedal and btw the switch on early models had a tendancy to stick on, (my car's a 03 and had that fault) so check with ya missus to make sure its okay - and it should be).

2nd issue - Thats normal - in the glove box is a key for ur car to to turn the airbag off (if u use a child seat for instance) otherwise it's active and thats okay. Check ur manual I'm sure its there.

3rd issue - I think ur right it hasn't been reset. To reset manually can be done, I've read but I can't remember what to do. Maybe thats in the manual too? A friend of mine had a VW and he did it but has I say I can't remember the procedure (something to do with the key in the ignition and clock adjuster!....google it??).

Tell ur wife not to worry their decent cars.......most of the time :)

I had to go and check the glow plug indicator just now because I couldnt wait till morning (im at work doing a night shift atm) and you are right it does show up for literally a split second, id imagined it showing up a lot longer than that so cheers for that and also cheers for the replys to my other questions especially the airbag as I sometimes let my eldest son sit in the front in his childseat so its nice to know I can turn the bag off.

If my shift manager wasnt around and the fact it will prob take half an hour to de-ice id take it out for a quick spin, ive never wanted to drive a car so much lol.

cheers again:coolthumb

On older generation diesels, it was normal to wait a few seconds for the glowplugs to do their thing and the light to go out.
The PD TDIs though very rarely need any length of time for the glowplugs, only when it's really cold do you see them come on for any length of time, and even then it's a very short time.

Presumably this is because a) they are direct injection - fuel doesn't get chucked into a separate cold chamber, and b) the PD injectors atomise the fuel so well that it always burns well.

Oh and yes the passenger airbag light delay is normal too.
I often used to get in mine, startup and think - am I imagining things, or has that light been on longer than it should have ???

Thanks for all the replys

We have booked the car back into the garage we bought it from so they can sort out a few of the niggles we have found, it came with 3 months warranty so it would be daft for us not to use it. We mentioned the service indicator needs resseting so they can sort it out for us. We have also noticed the car has a slight pull to the left so hopefully that will get sorted too. A mate of mine was round for tea last night and he said its common for VW built cars to pull to the left as his old Toledo used too and the A4 he now drives does also, anyone else heard or know anything about this issue?

Never really thought about it but my car does i'd say sligh to the left, but not pull. Maybe its a safety feature! ie. pull away from oncoming traffic? anyway dunno, if someone has an idea on that i'd love to hear it myself:confused:

So we have the car back after it went it with the pull to the left problem. Turns out it had uneven tyre wear and that caused it to pull left??? Anyhow it now seems fine with two new fronts on it covered by the warranty yeah im happy so result.

Tyres don't wear unevenly without a reason - something must be out of alignment.
That will be what causes the tyre wear, and the pull to the left.

Unless they've corrected the alignment, the same will happen again...did they re-align your steering ?

I wasnt there to ask, it was my wife who took it in and picked it up due to me being at work. I must admit although I dont know mutch about cars I had an idea that somthing else must be wrong to cause the wear, I will keep those thoughts to myself though because I dont want to worry my wife too much. Maybe I should take a trip down myself over the weekend and have a chat with the garage owner. If I dont get anything out of him then I might take it to my local Seat dealer just to give it a once over although that could prove a tad costly this close to xmas.

With use driving on the left side of the road, and the road being angled to the left so that water flows off to the side could be the reason. Atleast thats what i was told...
