aftermarket remote central locking kit

has anyone fitted an aftermarket remote locking kit?

my key fob dosn't work and its the only key i have .

Have you tried replacing the battery in your fob or is it totally kaput?

Would be ALOT cheaper getting a new key rather than going for an aftermarket system.

yeah the batterys are new , the fob wasnt working when i got the car so i changed the batterys first .

i've tried the " put key in ing take out press/hold lock and press open 3 times but it didnt work.

the light flashes when you press either button (2 button fob)

i was thinking about a kit from ebay

Tbh most those kits on eBay are pish. Don't last long and are temperamental. Better getting a new key/fob.

I take it the little LED in the fob doesn't light up?

the red led lights up perfectly when you press theres no lag or sticky , seat stealers here i come

Might more than just the fob then, have you checked all the fuses for the likes of the central locking are all ok?

i haven't checked fuses tbh in fact it never even entered my head . soon as its light and im not stuck driving a wagon on a motorway ill check them .

passengers side curtsy lights on the doors dont work nor the interior light when the pass door is opened,

also when i lock the drivers door , the lach go's down makes the lock sound , activates the alrm yet you can still open the drivers door and boot , but this has happened since i changed the drivers window regulator and tried to fix the lock barrel for 3 1/2 hours with no joy so changed the passengers side lock for the drivers and vice verser .

wonder if that did anything ,

If the fuses are ok, Chances are the door locks is what's at fault. Mainly the drivers one.

Its possible its stopping the central locking working rather than the fob not working. As if the driver's door lock doesn't lock the rest of the car won't lock.

ive sent a offer to a feller on ebay so hopefully will get it a bit cheaper , might pay the full £19 as it comes with that little ba$tard plug that is impossible to get off on the bottom . i got it off with a screw driver and a hammer

and now im wondering why it dosnt lock lol

If fob dont work it could need reprogrammed As you only got 1 key you need someone with vagcom to reprogram it 4 you

Bare in mind I'm not saying that is the fault, just a possibility. Not exactly an easy thing diagnosing over the internet lol

wondering if i should just bite the bullet and pay the stealers to sort it . go's against the grain but my car dosn't lock lol

Could just take it in to get diagnosed and then do the repair yourself if you know how to?

No worries, its stuff I've came across before. Mate's mk4 golf central locking failed like yours and it was the driver's door lock was fubared.
