I've done a few searches regarding this but can't find anything, probably using the wrong search terms...

Our 56-plate Mk2 Leon has problems with steaming up, and a musty smell coming from the ventilation, especially when the aircon is turned on after a while. I located the pollen filter which doesn't appear to have been changed since the car was bought (40,000 miles) so I've ordered a new one.

Regarding the smell - I've seen you can get air-con cleaning cans that you leave on in the car with recirculation on and the air-con on. Where is the best place to leave the can i.e. where is the recirculation intake vent on a Mk2 Leon?

Thanks for any help in advance. :)

I bought a can of this stuff from Halfrauds. I just pushed both seats fully back and put the can on the floor in the passenger side.

Worked a treat and had a nice lemon smell for ages.

The recirculate button has a kind of circular arrow symbol on it and is located with the other heating/ventilation controls; the intake is probably in the footwells. As to the cleaner, just follow the instructions on the can, and in the future, if you use the aircon regularly it is far less likely to develope the smell.

air con should always be on to prevent it failing, leave the air con on super cold and super fast ages, that should clear the musty smell and in future always leave the settings on auto.

Has the new pollen filter made any difference? I'm having the same problem with my 57 plate leon FR, had the system recharged by kwikfit but they said it was fine. I called into a local VW specialist on tuesday and it turns out there is a fault on the recirculation motor (fault code 00716). I have ordered an new pollen filter anyway as it was only £9 and not sure if it has been changed before.
