Alarm Problem - 2007 Leon FR

Hi Guys,

I had the door locking mechanism changed and the interior light sensor.

No Joy!!! :-(

I still have the same problem. Although it’s now a little bit clearer what’s going on as my interior light works.

So........What happens is the car thinks the door is open even when it’s closed. (Bear with me!) So the interior light stays on when I close the door (Interior light is in the middle position to turn on when any door is open) as I drive this changes randomly. So half way through a normal journey the dash light (Red pic of car with door open) and the interior light come on or go off.

Something’s making the car think the doors are open and then closed changing almost pulsing randomly through time as I’m driving. Could be 5 times in a minute or once in a 30min journey very random. The question is what the blinkers is it??

There are two states at the minute random which one I’m going to get at the end of my journey.

1) The car dash and interior light reflect a door is open. So can't use the alarm fob to lock the doors. I use the interior door locker and then manual key turn on the driver door locking only the driver door no flash of the lights. Bonus is the alarm doesn’t go off as it doesn’t arm the alarm in this situation?

2) Car thinks all the doors are closed everything seems fine and normal. Use the key fob to lock the door or manual key. (Light flashed all locked) Now in 1min or a random amount of time the car will think the doors open and set off the alarm. (In my case just flashing lights as the fuse is out).

My dash did not reflect the door was open before and now it does. Dunno if that was to do with the door mechanism but the mobile VAG guy said fault codes appeared on the door and interior light.

Last person I spoke to seemed to think it was something to do with the car alarm speaker module??! I aint got a scooby dooo?

I contemplating letting SEAT take a look at it and leach me of all my remaining money. :-(

Jin, it could could be the door control module playing up.

I'm thinking the same thing. Has anyone ever had one of these changed? Also is it something that SEAT themselves need to code appropriately after fitting. As the door locking module I had replaced on the drivers side needed coding which was the only reason didnt DIY the job in the first place.

I have no idea, they didn't say.
When I went to get courtesy car poor old Leo was in pieces and doors held together with a cable !

Don't know if I am gonna manage to get them to pay for window as it was them who broke it.
Don't see why I should pay for their mistake.

Well if it wasnt broken when you gave them the car there should be no reason or cost to you when it is returned. I've seen a guide that shows the door card removal is tricky and needs to be detached from the window as mentioned above. If done without the full knowledge it will end in a broken window.

My 56 fr has just been found to need drivers side new door control module and drivers side back door control module, started with the battery being drained then the alarm started going off in the middle of the night. Took it to the stealers and they said it would be £496 to replace them both. I have not had it done yet as find it hard to justify that money on some thing that is obvioulsy a known fault. Has any one tried to get seat to agree to pay, or part pay towards this? Any advise would be gratefull.

Had the random alarm / door open when closed on dash etc and it was the door control module.

This is a known fault but not wide spread, SEAT paid half as good will based on fssh etc. With out being replaced the car will continue to act up.

With the earlier leons it appears the common faults are door control module, interior fan motor and injectors if you have a 170pd.

I have had all three but there you go, **** happens but now all have been replaced car will be staying as we still like it!!!

Thanks for reply, i will get on to seat. When you say fssh i guess you are refering to full seat service history?

100% certain as others have already said that you door control module is faulty.

the leon 1P has a CU in each door then one main CU which controls them all. it controls central locking, alram, windows, mirrors etc.

if one becomes faulty - the drivers for example, then the main unit sees the door as being open, so the door will no lock and the alarm function will be confused.

the do require coding but thia can be done by anyone with VCDS and doesnt nessesarily need to be a dealer, the door cards can also prove to be quite an obstical to the DIYer.

Is the control module part of the window mechanism MJ? I had a pair of faults with my car :(. The drivers door locking unit which I have sorted but the control module is still causing my alarm to go off. Just not sure where exactly it is when I pull the door card off?

Anyone have any idea where the door control module is? I need to replace mine too! Don't want to take the door apart then realise I don't know what I'm looking for :S

It's connected to the window motor, not hard to miss. It is inside a plastic cover. To be honest I think that this problem is due to water ingress, and if we got the unit dry somehow and then sealed the unit properly it wouldnt need a replacement.

How much did you pay for yours? Can you replace one side or do you have to replace both?

Yes that is it, mixed stories about replacing one or two.... I haven't replaced either yet.... Seat Uk offered me 20% discount on parts and labour as this is a "known" fault. Unfortunately for us if the fault had been rectified in warranty period it would have been free.

My car has now developed this door control unit fault. Caught it on camera and appears to be the front passenger door.

Did anyone else get SEAT to contribute to the repairs. My car is going to the dealer Monday morning.

I have a battery drain problem on my 56 plate FR but no other faults. I have tried to diagnose this myself by pulling fuses and seeing the battery drain (about 0.4amps) drop on an ammeter but I can't isolate it. Where and how would I disconnect the DCM, fingers crossed this is the cause but I'm not looking forward to the bill at the end of it.

Hi there I'm having the same problem with my 2007 leon but my alarm is still randomly going off even if I leave my car unlocked  I noticed the interior light would flash on and then the alarm went off so I disconnected it and it stopped for a week or so but now it goes off sometimes constantly all night and then sometimes doesn't for a day or so regardless of if I lock it or leave it open any help would be greatly appreciated as my neighbours are starting to get annoyed to say the least thank you

If you unlock the car but don't open a door the car will relock itself. Best to unlock, open and then close a door.

I put a camera in the car looking at the multifunction display which sure enough showed a door flashing to open and then the alarm going. Maybe you want to give that a try.

It took me some time to isolate this. I thought I had posted the reason but maybe I didn't. The problem was the passenger door control module, which was found by getting it plugged into a diagnostic laptop and identifying the past alarm events. It is a pain to change and isn't cheap but I'm fairly sure that will be your problem. I did this myself using guides on this forum. Got a mk7 gti now but miss my fr such a great car other than this issue ;-)
