Alhambra spare wheel winding mechanism

Help...

a recently used tyre company kindly informed me the winding mechanism is stuffed!

Obvious do not want to pay the £150+ price tag to get the thing replaced.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

also is this common? is this the tyre companies fault of is this 'one of those things'

Do anyone know if I bodge something together?

Just remember that if you "bodge" something make sure that it is a good "bodge" because if this wheel should drop down when travelling quickly the results could be devastating to vehicle and your life.
