I am in the process of ordering new alloys for my 07 and have a decision to make on the size. The same style I want is available in both

8.5x18 with et32 or 7.5x18 et42

Which would be best I currently have J9x19's and was worried the 7.5 might look a bit skinny on the leon however I would be worried about the et32 on the 8.5's, althought I have my arches rolled so it might fit.

any advice would be apprechiated, I was told the 7.5 were better for performance and handling etc

if we are talking 19 inch wheels then i think the narrowest tyre you can buy is 235 which is going to be a little to wide for a 7.5. It will fit but performance less than on an 8.5. The tyre will swim more when cornering and you lose a bit of the benefit of a 19 inch set up. Generally you want to fit the narrowest tyre possible on your rim. But then you sacrifice comfort and run a great risk of suspension or wheel damage given the varying state of our roads. But since 235 is the narrowest you can go i would fit the 8.5 or go for an 18 inch 8 or 8.5 with a 225/40, which gives good performance and good comfort.

I've run 10J on the rear and 9.5J on the front, no arches rolled, bit of stretch. Air can be done on our cars the arches are huge and we don't have a massive rake, just need to do the maths on the ET's. I personally think you shouldn't go any smaller than 8J/8.5J due to the Leon being a rounded big looking a$$.
