I finally sorted my iPod properly, 462 albums, all tagged right, and with cover art. So now i want to use my ipod in the car.

I have been using it with the aux in, but its starting to do my head in not being able to use the steering wheel controls.

That, and not charging while plugged in.

I have about £200 to spend.

I like the look of the alpine x100, the display with cover art would be nice, but im slightly put off by the lack of cd player, not sure if i would remember (or want) to always take my ipod out with me.

And looking online just, the cloth case for the facia is a big putoff, as is the size of the dial.

Anyone got any recommendations, preferably with fitted photos ? :)

Cheers,

Tony

Update

I ordered the x100 yesterday.

I now fitted it, after about 2 and a half hours of trying.

Is there a way to get the aux in by the handbrake to still work with the new hu ?

I used it to watch videos on my ipod and have the sound come through the speakers, but it doesnt seem to work now. Everything else works fine with the stereo.

hey halftone

the aux-in should be picked up by the hu if it supports AUX inputs as the connection is hardwired into the ISO unit.

are the steering controls working yet?

Nope, i enabled the aux, and whatever aux+ is, and still nothing.

I have backache, a cut finger, and work in a couple of hours, so i think i might rip it all out and try it all again friday when im off.

lol...i'm surprised it doesn't change the settings automatically upon recognition. mine was literally plug and play once they sent me the correct stalk adaptor.

The whole lot is being returned.

The aux in doesnt work, so i cant listen to videos through the speakers anymore, and the steering wheel controls dont work. £250 for a colour display with album art is not worth it imo.

And just for fun, the code wont work when i put the alana back in :(

Edit* Yes it does, glad im a member here, i was pressing the button the manual said, not the scan button.

So, again, any recommendations ? Preferably ones that work with steering wheel controls, and aux in :)

Youd search about a bit for the aux in to be hard wired as the unit probably had its own aux in on the back knowing alpine it probably required some elaborate add on for it to work.

Try a pioneer unit

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pioneer-dehp700bt-p-6540.html

These have a 3.5mm jack in the back so this gives you 3 options

1. Mess with the wire coming into the iso block and insert it into the 3.5mm jack

2. Run a new cable to the back for your ipod to plug into.

3. Buy some headphones .

:)

It also claims to be steering wheel control compatible.

Thanks, has anyone had trouble returning things to CAD ?

I emailed asking for an RMA number to return it, as i dont want it, because its of no use to me.

First reply said "whats the reason for return" so i explained, second email said "have you installed it ?"

as long as the items have no signs of wear n tear on them and are in original boxes they should refund you most if not all of the money. that's what happened to me anyway...

i would highly recommend my Pioneer hu as it's high spec for £180 (was this price before but there are newer versions out now) and looks good in the dash. check the link in my siggie for pictures :)

hope you get it all sorted mate

Cad are liars ...

I returned the item with every single bag, yet they still say there are bags missing/ripped !

How can there be a bag missing, when everything I sent back, except the manual (which wasnt in a bag) was returned bagged ?

They have said they will issue a refund minus 10%, so i have replied saying ill have to accept that, but I want a full refund for the leads, as there can be no doubt they are all in the condition they were delivered.

Strange how it takes them so long to reply to returns + refund emails !
