Bought a nice 2.0TDi sport 2005. One owner car 146k full seat history but has its faults. In dire need of wax and a valet and...

Speedo dial is a bit lumpy as the speed increases.
Clock looses time always resets to 00.00 when ignition is off andthe trip counter resets.
Heated seat switches missing.(seats work when i bridge the connections)
Lower grille damaged
rear fog not working
switch or blanking missing in centre consul next to esp switch
And the screen on stereo starts okay then goes black

Already done the boot lock and new ariel where it was leaking water.

Any pointers in the right direction let me know please guys..

would like lower grill with chrome if anyone can help point me

I've got the same car in 2006 model. Generally solid and nothing you've described sounds too bad. Check out Sere Motors in the dealers section for any parts you need. Genuine dealer and very reasonable prices. Quick to ship etc.

If you can't find him search in the top bar and people ashould have posted links. I think the switch next to ESP is the tyre pressure switch (but don't quote me).

What Stereo do you have in there, is it the standard one? I have one I just took out of mine kicking around if you are local? (South London)

I have the same car, same year as you. I bought mine a few years back and also had a problem with the speedo dial being a bit sticky. Fortunately I noticed it straight away and got it replaced under warranty. It was a hassle, the garage couldn't get the part for 5 months as there were a faulty batch that VAG had made. If you are going to change the clocks, you can actually get the newer ones which look much nicer. If you search my threads there was one where I wrote about my long drawn out saga. Although seems you got yours sorted.
Same with the radio, you can upgrade to the touch screen one found in later models (but you have to change your CAMBUS). Not hugely expensive, but if you are making the change it is worth doing.

Been out at car today. Fog lamp bulb holder at rear totally rotten away. Dealer price for the new bulb holder. 14quid nope don't think so.
So fairly happy with car for the moment. No buzzer when lights are left on. Still no clock. And I'm not sure if the mirrors are supposed to fold in electrically. There is little or no information on these cars when I go looking.

Yeah unfortunately I also seem to battle to get any info. What I have found is that because most of the components are shared with VW, you can often find faults are the same. Try get a bulb holder from a breakers or eBay. Clock could be an issue with the loom maybe? My mirrors fold by turning the adjustment switch next to the handbrake to 6 o'clock position. Ignition needs to be on or at least have been on 20 seconds prior to turning the switch so that the dot faces 6 o'clock (back of the car). I'm happy with mine although it has now developed an annoying knocking sound from underneath and I find the overall build quality quite inferior to my previously owned VW's.

Okay guys, owned the car a month now. Sorted out various issues and added a few things.

Dashboard is still a problem speedo does what it wants. But ive also noticed..
No lights left on buzzer,
No cruise control light,
No seat belt warning,
no front fog light warning.... Probably all dash related. Can locate a standard dash but trying to locate the one with the bigger LCD. Anyone local to Glasgow who can calibrate a dial cluster when I get one.

Oh and my rant... mudflaps... ffs.. 100 quid... seiously[:@]

1. Don't think the Cruise Control light works on any Altea - well certainly not mine.

2. Only seems to be a seat belt warning on the drivers side.......

3. There is no front fog light warning light either apart from the switch itself

4. No Lights on buzzer on mine (2008)(lights turn off after 1min automatically) but it does chime if I leave a parking light on (indicator)

Think the lights turning off automatically is "Coming Home" function - to light the way home - also turns them on when you unlock the car to light the way back to it - not sure if this can be disabled.....

From the VW site The 'coming home' and 'leaving home' functions are designed to improve your convenience and comfort. When you get out of your car, various lights, including the dipped-beam headlights, courtesy lights in the exterior mirrors, rear lights and number-plate lighting, all stay on for a short while before they are switched off automatically. The same lights are switched on when you unlock your car with the remote control. In this way your car's lights help to illuminate the way to and from your front door, whenever you arrive or set off in the dark. Note the functioning described does differ between models.
