Hi guys, I am sure that someone post some pics/a link to info on how to remove the Altea Stereo but having searched and searched I can't find it!
Have just purchased an dension ice>link plus in the hope of hooking up my iPod and in my naivety I had hoped that the car might have the lead ready installed to the blanking plate in the bottom of the storage bin between the front seats (where the cd changer would be) - needless to say it doesn't so it's not going to be the easy install I had hoped for! Now Im worried I might mark the stereo or dash trying to remove it. And I don't dare think about where I can run the cables yet either! Perhaps I should pay the dealer to run it back to the storage bin/armrest thing. Help!

On removal, yes I have been been kind of fortunate [ :( ] to watch Halfords take mine out twice and not getting any further forward since they didn't have the leads for the Sony MD Changer they had bought in plus the car kit. Anyhow there are four grooves where you stick those metal pieces in that you sometimes get when you buy a car radio. You push them in each slot left, right and below and it then unclips and slides forwards. You can see the slots around the edge of the unit.

You won't find any pre-wiring since Seat don't do it, this is what Halfords was looking for the second time and that's after they had looked at it once already and seen that the connections were empty. So yeah, four of those metal strips is what you need. I think you can do it with two, I've only watched.

Ha... you found the instruction off that site whilst I was posting up.

Having a built in one make it look tidy also reduces the risk of breakins... Would be OK if you got one with a cover like my old ZX that you could close down;). But as it's been said you would get the sterring wheel controls to work. I suspect the issue is with the speakers rather than the headend.

Yes you are quite correct Tell the problems with the poor sound quality will most likely stem from poor speakers. Think I may take the whole lot to my friendly (and very very experienced!) local ICE specialist and see what they say...

Let us know... PAUL think I've remembered his name correctly replaced the base / mid range unit himself. I was thinking about it today, may be if you put just an integral pair with tweeters in it would work fine. If there is a crossover it would stop the new bottom tweaters from working but the rest should be fine... that was my thought on the train and any views anybody ?. I think I could cope without the ear height tweeters in the door if one could silence them and just use a unit with everything in.... hmmm

Perhaps I should tickle PAUL's feet again as I did on the headend last week by posting on his thread .

Yeah that might work Tell. I'll let the guys have a good listen when i take it in and they can pass comment and hopefully come up with some possible solutions. I had hoped it would at least sound as good as the one in the Cordoba did!

Replied to you on the other thread!
With regards the sound quality it is definitely the speakers that are at fault. They are the usual cheap paper rubbish. The head unit is manufactured by Blaupunkt and seems to be ok. With change of the main lower door speakers a big improvement is made. (the 8" sub in the boot also helps) Forget changing the Tweeters as they are mounted to the back of the door panels and you will need a couple of hours per door to strip them out.
The Steering wheel controls stopped me replacing the head unit!

I have the Dash mount phone bracket and the stereo does not quite fit back in flush with it in place, but as it has four catches holding the stereo in place it is only one of them that is not clicked in. No rattles from the stereo and you have to look quite closely to see it is not flush. Brodit do a mount that clips over the right hand air vent that works well. I used a set of Kenwood head removal keys to remove the head unit and you can just about do two clips at a time.
There are companys that make adaptor leads for aftermarket CD changers that plug directly into the back of the head unit. As the Altea was so new and not listed we tried the latest golf adaptor and this has worked without any problem.

Is it just me, or has no one answered the question about getting a DIN fitting into the Altea?

I am bloody desperate to get an aftermarket system into my Altea when it arrives tomorrow and no one has yet seemed to answer the question of where to buy the DIN fascias, despite it being asked in at least three different threads.

I don't want to replace the speakers, which seems to be a well answered question, I want to replace the bloody stereo itself!

Thanks in advance

din size radio

Hi there,

Well that's fairly simple, just order the faciaplate of a basic altea, that one has 2 single units over each other. And if you go for an aftermarket radio choose an Alpine or Kenwood that way you can keep your steeringwheel controls. Need some help? send me an email and ill send you my phone number

According to SEAT, even the basic Altea in the UK ships with the CD unit - so you are unable to order the fascia from the UK. :-(
