Hi All

Whilst the Altea Cruise control thread bemoans missing items I wonder if any body had tie down hooks fitted in the boot of their XL. I certainly did not but I presume early Alteas had hooks to go with their nets.

For information the XL does have the mouldings in the boot liner, and punched out holes for the bolts revealing threaded holes behind. I took the hooks out of my Fiat Brava as it was going to the scrapheap in the sky, via the GM ecoflex scheme, and they fit perfectly.

Even my new Corsa has two hooks in the boot, and as this is a safety item I think its a bit poor to omit them on the XL. And that on a car that cost me half the price of the Altea.

Just for my understanding ... what you mean by "early Alteas" is just the regular 5P built before the XL was revealed?

The boot net delivered with the Altea was meant for tying down things like these ...

... and were fixed either at those hooks or right within the girders holding the double tier boot.

Have to admit that the lack of boot hooks is one of those small but really infuriating things....

A typical trip back from the supermarket: pack shopping bags, open boot, load bags, close boot, drive home, open boot, repack bags, unload boot, close boot, carry to kitchen, unpack bags, open boot, hunt for missing items, lift up that flappy bit of boot liner, discover food items, replace boot liner, close boot, carry to kitchen....

The other thing that bugs me is the drinks holders in the cab.. fine for open cans of your favourite fizzy stuff but too close to the console for a bottle to sit in without rattling around - changing from 1st to 2nd doesn't work too well using a bottle of pepsi:D

EDIT: Out of curiosity, if the threaded holes exist, could the net and fixing hooks be ordered from SEAT and installed DIY?

I picked up my new Altea XL last week and the boot mat hooks are fitted to mine, and the boot mat was in the spare wheel area. I also got the new Screen blinds built into the rear doors. I think Seat change things all the time on their models.

Hi Oliverpe

Did you actually get a net similar to the pictures of the standard Altea one shown in Klawit posting?.

Megadyptes

I think the question of whether the hooks etc are available is also valid. I feel a letter coming on to CS as they owe me for the time and effort to go back to the dealer to get my LHD inner tail lights replaced. Maybe my car is a cross between LHD and RHD!.

Hi XLRAY,

My net is exactly like the first photo, with the D-rings fixed in the 4 corners of the boot, and the net has four clip hooks in each corner.

Cheers

I don't use my net it's somewhere packed in the lower boot area [if you have one]. Tip with the shopping it's fairly easy you tie a not in your carrier bags when you put them in the boot, that way nothing comes out :).

I do use a chiller box / fridge thing for the cool stuff as well and I must admit that can slide around but who cares. The net would be in the way of that for me.

@xlray

Have you already checked all the places underneath the boot floormat and even underneath the spacesaver ... I know about similar complaints about the missing net and later on, they found them trapped underneath the backseat or under the sparewheel ... Pedro seems to throw it in there thoughtlessly and noone cares, where it will slide to on the long journey ...

@Tell

For all those loose articles I deposit in my lower boot, I use this velcro fastener tape, whick hooks pretty tight to the floormat ... so first aid box, fire extinguisher, warning triangle etc. all stick to the ground and haven't moved an inch since.

Ah we're a bit relaxed in the UK about the emergency kit being easy to get at Klaus so I'd have to unpack the lower floor before putting the fire out and taping the finger - LOL. But I do keep my triangle and yellow coat in the compartment that run across the top by the parcel shelf. The boot upper floor I keep clear except for the chiller box, the MD player in the left compartment that it fits into via velcro and the screen wash and windscreen cleaner on the right hand side. Everything else from tow rope, jump leads, foot pump, electric foot pump, vac cleaner, wheel brace, oil, spot light, torch etc and so forth is in the lower floor + the full size wheel. The beauty of the two tier system.

Xlray, yes my netting is knocking about under there somewhere as Klaus says.

Well, Pedro must have missed the boot when he was throwing the cargo net and hooks at my XL... at least the spare wheel made it in !

xlray: any chance of a photo to see what your DIY looks like?
