Have looked at many posts but have not found any answers if indeed there are any.

My vehicle 58 reg Altea XL SE Tdi DSG - on two separate occasions recently the enging cut out for no apparent reason. Thankfully on slow roads and at low speed. Cannot imagine the effects at 70ish on the motorway!!!

No warning indicator(s) showed.

After halting the vehicle, key restart, the enging ran OK.

Has only happened these two occasions.

Local dealer claims no fault found.

Any ideas?

Thanks'

Not sure why but there should be a fault code show if it was anything more than a wiring fault the the ignition switch. Try an auto electrician and they may have more ideas why it could happen.

As for happening on a motorway.. Now you have had it happen you can just turn it off and on again as it will be rolling and just restart anyway. It would not stop dead but roll to a halt over some distance. So taking it out of gear would allow you to indicate and move over if you were in the center or nearside lanes to get into the hard shoulder. Not making light of what happens but being realistic as I had a total turbo failure in a Renault in the centre lane and I indicated and moved over to stop the car on the hard shoulder with no problem.. OK not happy but that was a similar situation but needed me to actually get off the road fast and stall the car as the engine oil was keeping it running as well as sucking the sump dry. It would have killed the crankshaft in seconds if it had run dry.

So go to an auto electrician.. They will have more of an idea than going to a Seat dealer.

by any chance does this happen in the higher gears only....

and when it happens, when you restart its fine? (no lights, no funny noises etc? ) as this sounds like a common isse wit hthe 140bhp 2.0 lump.

mine was diagnosed (and fixed) with a turbo control unit (around £150 apparently) garage tried other things, but none touched the mark.
