Hi,

I've started getting a vibration noise coming from the back of the vehicle. It only occurs when the vehicle is warmed up, and only at around 1500 rpm.

I tried folding the rear seats down, and/or removing the parcel shelf, but this just makes the noise louder!

Any ideas what it could be?

Cheers....

badly located mother-in-law?

But- is there a right place?

Poss exhaust?

is it definately inside the car? Check under the carpet floor, it might be one of ur tools in ur tool kit vibrating/hitting another. Also check around the spare wheel for loose tools/screws etc.

DPJ, surely the boot is the ideal place for locating an annoying mother-in-law?!

Pabs, yes I thought it might be exhaust, hard to tell. Can't be 100% sure whether its from inside or outside the car, hard to check as it generally only vibrates when the car is moving.... It has done it on one occasion while stationary, but I didn't have an assistant on hand to help trace the noise!

It does sound like its from inside the car, but these noises can be quite hard to pinpoint.

Will have a look at the spare/toolkit and see if thats causing any problems.

Boot Vibration

Hi,

Had the same thing on my LCR. At its worst when pottering around town at low revs.

Had to investigate because it was annoying the hell out of me. Found that two
securing/fixing washers had either come off or left off from the centre boot panel.
Before putting them back on I tapped the said piece of trim in the boot and it rattled/vibrated soooo easy.

Cheers

Cheers Dazler, I'll have a look at that panel tonight. Are the washers visible from inside the car, or do I need to remove the panel to see if they are missing?

I'm sure it'll be obvious if something is missing when I have a look...

Yes Ice Man, that'll be the next thing I'll try, if it isn't the panel Dazler mentioned!

No, you don't need to remove the panel, there are two securing tabs protruding from the bottom of the panel. As iceman says remove the spare & all accessories, this was how I spotted the missing fixings.

It wasn't that panel/fixings! Havn't hada chance to take out the spare and toolkit yet, that'll be next.

One thing, I've noticed that the large plastic trim panel on the boot lid interior seems quite loose in the middle. Behind where the wiper motor is (base of rear window) you can push it in quite a long way. Is this normal? Could someone check on their car if they get the chance.

Cheers

I know this sounds silly but take out the spare and all the accessories ;)

I believe my suggestion above is the same! (Check ur tools and around spare wheel etc)

:bleh:

Sorry being picky!

As for plastic trim, it should be held on tight (ish) with clips to the boot itself. It is possible to kinda "flex" the plastic a bit, but it shouldnt be loose.

Cheers Pabs. The centre part of that panel flexes about an inch, at the lower edge of the glass. Its much less flexible at the ends, I wonder if one of the fixings is broken in that panel....

Anyway, YES I will take tools and spare out, I keep forgetting in my half-awake state every morning!

Am going to the dealer for a brake fluid change on Thursday so will see if they can pinpoint it, it'll be useful if I can eliminate the spare/toolkit as the cause before then.

After some thorough detective work I have tracked down the noise!

Its not the seats,
its not the parcel shelf,
its not the spare / toolkit,

...its coming from the large central trim panel on the tailgate. The vibration stops when I push against the panel.

Has anyone taken that panel off before? Is it held on with clips, screws or both? I reckon the noise might be wiring or a connecter vibrating against the inside of the panel.....

I'll probably take it into the dealers to get them to see if anything is loose or broken, just wondering if anyone can suggest what the noise might be.

The vibration / noise coming from the back of car ... yeah sound familar..

I have noticed it over the last 2weeks, since only owning my 53plate 180bhp Cupra for 3weeks this has concerned me. Although after many years working on my mk3 golf I was used to tracking down such noises..lol

I have tried all the usual suspects....

parcel shelf,
spare / toolkit,

I also noticed the two securing/fixing washers had either come off or left off from the centre boot panel.
I fixed this by inserting some small rubber mats until I get the washers.

But after all that it still rattles ...

So now I'm also going to try the large central trim panel on the tailgate.

I will let you know what happens.

Other annoying rattles are as follows:-

Front Passenger side speaker (tweeter) or upper panel..
Loose trim where the vertical internal panel at foot well meets the cill covers, it seam to be not refitted correctly. It wants to pop out from the cill.

Any Ideas on how to get these off and re-fix.??? :help:

Apart from that what a car,... I am so glad I went from the VW to the seat. That 1.8t 20v lump has never sounded better than in this SEAT
