Another Problem....

I'm starting to get sick of this car!

I was pulling up at lights and the start/stop kicked in normal as usual.

When I released the clutch to set off the car made a loud clicking noise and totally cut out! No power to anything! I turned the ignition off and restarted then a warning appeared on the MFD quoting 'starter system faulty. Workshop! The warning is still on the Car system menu.

In hindsight I heard the same loud clicking noise a few months back when at a drive-thru. I just thought it was a one off.

Sounds like the starter motor is gonna pack in. Not good on a 2 year old car!

Thought about the RS3 buts its not really worth the extra 12k for the next car.

I think you tune the cupra you begin to realise how much of a car it is for not a lot of bucks I did mine from 800 mile so only tend to hate it when I get punctures or dizzy drivers scuffing it

After killing a drive shaft I've learned that if anything goes wrong on my cupra again I'm driving it until it packs up or catches fire that way you get a hire car within the hour no hassle car parts replaced left right and centre.

Taking it the dealer your self just makes for big ass arguments and time wasting. With regarda to getting a hire car sorted and work started on these beasts

Yeah, dealers are a pain. No doubt I'll end up in an Ibiza for more than a week again, it could be worse as closest dealer is a Fiat/Seat franchise and they kindly gave me a lovely peach coloured 500 whilst my car was in for a service! I couldn't drive it into work as I knew how much urine would be extracted at my expense!

I've been looking at a few replacements. I do like the GTi (no way want an R!) Tried a M240i but it didn't sit right with me for some reason. I'd love to try the A45 AMG but the prices are out of my range. I can't stand Ford RS's or Type R's, they look like Darth Vader's knob humping the accessories parts in Halfords.

Believe it or not I may settle for a Lexus IS300h F-Sport, not fast but a very nice motor and some good deals to be had.

They say cars with start-stop have reinforced starter motors and batteries. I always have questioned that...
I've never liked the idea myself, seems like a lot of pressure to put on the starter system but no doubt they're designed for that. I used to be in the habit of turning it off straight away in my previous FR DSG car as it was so intrusive, not so bad in the manual.

Anyways, need to book it in once again!

I see a place for stop start on manuals but definitely not on DSGs, seems an odd concept. But I agree with OP on the GTI front, that's on my list of potential upgrades from my FR, that and the Cupra seem to be shortlisted so far, still around 8/9 months till I need to arrange a new lease so I'm sure I'll change my mind 50 times in that period

I have a couple of mates with GTi's and I think they're a great all round car. Maybe not as manic as the Cupra but just as quick for everyday use and so much better on the inside. Hindsight is a great thing.

Clicking from the starter motor is normally lack of power from the battery. This happened to my Leon, in the end needed a new battery because one of the cells was faulty. This happened when the car was 17 months old.

Cheers Gaffer,

Hopefully it's simple as that. Would the battery be covered under warranty?

Yes, it broke down on my completely in the end so SEAT breakdown service came out to me. There is a button in the phone menu to call the breakdown service. Completely free of charge. Although my car has 98500 miles now and it's had a lot of things replaced. Now my daytime lights/side lights don't work properly.

Cheers for the info, I have the number stored unfortunately.

I checked the car an hour ago and it started no problem but the warning is still present. I'm gonna book it in tomorrow but will use the other halfs beat up old Kuga tomorrow whilst out and about to be safe!

And my boot seat logo handle stays sticking out when you open the boot. Hardly ever use the boot. Nice car but low quality parts. Coils crumble whenever the spark plugs are renewed, lots of things, I have a list somewhere.
Got a list myself! My previous FR184 had a new injector at 4k, various electrical gremlins sorted and media system replaced.

My current Cupra has had coil pack and injector issues resolved, no thanks to the dealer as they couldn't find anything wrong so I went to a local specialist and they sorted it. I still have issues and have been told it maybe the fly-wheel causing issues! I've also had rattles 'sorted' by the dealer but they are just getting worse. I've also had the fuel cap jamming, it takes several attempts of locking/unlocking to open it.

Very bad for a 2 year old car with 20k.

It's a poor quality car, I used to have an Octavia company car and that was much better quality.

Sorry to hear of the issues. Thats what happens when you let the spanish build things though, they're too busy thinking about stabbing cows to death concentrate on the job.

And don't forget they have a wee nap at lunchtime! I wish we could do the same!
