Hey guys
I've had a 97 cupra gti for about 3 weeks and the other day some woman smashed into the back of me doing about 20 mph, the right panel by the brake cluster has been pushed in stopping me from opening the boot and I'm worried that they are going to right the car off so is there any way of fixing this?? And on a brighter note I'm looking to do stage 1 in the near future so Any info would be most appreciated

Sorry to hear what's happened. I suspect it will be borderline being written off - it's normally 60 - 70% of the car's value in repairs. If they do you could accept their offer (and remember to negotiate hard, you're in a stronger position as you've only just bought it so can argue for reimbursement at that value, less the excess). Alternatively you could buy it as salvage (normally 30 - 40% of value) and fix it yourself. Again, negotiate hard with the insurance co. as they may even agree not to record it as a Cat D or Cat C.

In terms of a 'Stage 1' - this is more the lingo of the turbo boys, us normally aspirated bunch have to make do with a rechip, cams, polish & port, manifold, air filter, free-flow exhaust etc. all that costs a lot of money to release just a few extra bhp. To give you an idea, my Cordy 16v has Schrick cams, TSR Manifold, cold air feed, polish&ported head, exhaust & a rechip, and is only putting out 181.5bhp (stock 150).

Hope you get the insurance co. sorted.

well hopefully they wont right it off ive grown attached to it and ill prob have to repair the damage myself lol but cheers for the advise anyway and sick cordy:p
