Thanks Goble. If you let me know the number then I can let them know.

The dealer did find this. However they said that it was only applicable to 2004 Altea's and that the system they use asks for the vehicle chassis number. As mine was registered in 2007 (suspect it was built late 2006) it didn't come up, as the boot lamp fitted at build time was the updated one. The issue is with the other door control module apparently.

Had this kind of problem on a 52 plate Passat Estate we owned before the Altea,at first it was the bonnet switch but the showed as being open on the dash

Fixed that by replacing it,its just a microswitch, but then the alarm would periodically go off, showed no fault codes,

On the Passat forum it was found that the rear washer tube was leaking onto the switch, they dont like being wet:(

Its worth spraying all locks and switches with WD40 or similar occasionaly
How bizarre you post that, I had exactly the same problem on my 51plate Passat Estate a few weeks back - after heavy rain, the alarm started going off randomly, the information display showed the bonnet fllickering which suggested a faulty microswitch. Bought a new switch, but before I had a chance to fit it, the problem went away and never came back
No fault codes, but some judicious use of vag-com and the appropriate label files I could see the cause of the last alarm triggers, and it did say it was the bonnet...
