AP Springs & Dampers Kit, or others?

So I am looking for a good springs and dampers kit on a budget (Up to £350 max).

I have been looking on Venom Motorsport as they have a wide choice of different kits.

I found the AP Suspension Kit that is 40mm / 30mm front / rear that includes springs and dampers. Will it lower this full distance or come up short? My splitter catches on everything as it is :(

Bargain considering I need a new rear spring and two standard springs cost £144.

I have read they are just re-branded Weitec ones? Are they any good? Any better options?

Hi Coops. The AP kits get very good reviews when it comes to coilovers so these should do well :). They are made by KW, as are Weitec and I believe the differences in them are that the quality of the internals as you go up the range improves, therefore the ride will be better with the KWs and with better road holding perhaps, also I don't think that the APs have the same degree of rust proofing as the KWs...but that's where the extra £100 comes in. You can get the Weitecs delivered for £354 from DPM Performance which are middle ground.

In terms of lowering, expect the front to drop by 20mm and the rear to drop 10mm. The LCR is -20mm than a standard Leon already so this is how it's worked out. You shouldn't catch the splitter much more at all as the rebound of the shock absorber is reduced meaning that the car will bounce less over humps and compress less when going up ramps etc. Hope this helps.

Good to know about the catching too. Whats the ride like with them? Not going to be super hard is it? I got sick of my old corsa on coilovers, damaged my spine! lol

£330.60 is a bargain price for the Weitecs, only £30 more than the AP's. Free delivery too!

I don't have the Weitec kit myself but I have been in a Leon with them and the ride was better than standard if I am honest. It was a little firmer but less crashy than the normal kit, also body roll was reduced loads. When I got back into my standard Leon, it felt positively boat like in comparison. I'll be doing this mod very soon I hope, maybe a rear ARB too :)

I would like more confirmation of this... I'm forever catching my splitter, so much so I go (literally) about 2mph over any sort of incline for fear of catching! Even what I'd consider shallow ramps! If a nice new shock/spring kit would solve this I'd definately change (especially if it lowers a few mm too!)

P.S. Standard ride height as per my sig!
 
I am surprised that you still have as much roll as OE, Gavin. The stiffer shock absorbers and springs should reign this in alot. I was speaking in terms of an LCR by the way, maybe the LC is different :shrug: but either way, stiffer suspension should reduce side to side roll, even more extremely with coilovers.

Glanza, it's been documented a few times by lads on here who have the kit :). I've had cars on coilovers and spring packages before, pretty much kissing the floor but suprisingly, speed bumps weren't too much of a problem as I'd thought they would be, the body of the car just went upwards with the wheels where as the OE suspension compressed a little first...as it's designed to I guess for comfort.

That's about all I can tell you, it feels like there's less compression when I mount a speedhump but as I said, my shocks were old so gave off a very audible sort of "pfft" sighing noise whenever I asked them to do anything, I dunno how it would compare to your lower milage LCR :)

This is exactly what my shocks do, front and back, the go psst psst over any sort of bump, sounds like air suspension :lol:

Surely it would make no difference though if the bottom of the bumper is lower than the bump before the wheels even touch it? But I suppose this would be the same with standard suspension too
