So my car is rated for 134mph, I had it remapped from 150bhp to 180bhp, anyway I managed to get the car up to 130, I’m not gonna say where, anyhow it didn’t want to go anymore than that, are these cars limited to their top speed rating? Because surely an extra 30bhp would yield a higher top speed.

Also 130 on the Speedo will probably be 10% less than indicated in real terms. Most accurate way to measure vmax is GPS
Depends on gearing ratios and tyre size.
The cupras 1.01 in 5th gear meaning your clocks mirror each other for rpm and Speedo I can't remember what I pushed mine to on a public road in 5th but I hit 180 in 6th.

Arronleeds I also have a 150bhp FR and am thinking of getting it remapped. Who did you use and how are you finding it? Does it make a big difference and has it affected your fuel consumption at all?

Dont know if the FR is limited but as Kane7 said i know the Cupra is limited to 155, when I had my Revo stage one done Revo confirmed this limiter was removed.
ScruffyLad I have two things to say re fuel consumption.
1/ If you are looking for more power that you will use then fuel economy will suffer (just like if you drive it hard versus gentle in standard mode)
2/ Revo have this on there web site Dependant on your driving style, this software will deliver like for like fuel economy in 'normal' driving conditions. which is the same answer as 1/ abover

Cheers theoldboy. I expected the consumption to go down, similar to like you say when driving with a heavy foot. However I was wondering if it is drastic enough to not warrant the extra power if that makes sense?
Is it also true that if you disconnect the battery with a REVO remap you loose it? Unfortunately I can't get on the site at work to check.

No consumption is relevant just the same as be for via driving style.
I had my Revo after 800 miles of wearing the engine in from factory I couldn't wait, completely changes the car infact I bummed it that much on a post I made people started to ask whether I was Revo Rep
And no I won't get rid of the Revo if the battery is out for 10 mins or longer. It's not some cheap tacky dtuk putting false figures on the fueling numbers it's a full ecu map the original is taken off and stored on Revos servers

With regards to replace battery you loose map, I just did a search on the web and a number of people say no issue others say they have a problem but no real detail.
Bottom line I have not changed mine but if it did revert to stock I would go back to Revo and get them to fix it as this is a bug.
Also if you are thinking of using any of the serious mapping companies then ask them before you buy and if there is a problem you can show what you were told. Or you can just ask REVO/APR on the relevant channel on this forum.

There is a REVO dealership about 20miles from me. I think it is worth talking to them like you suggest. Good call on the REVO channel, I shall have a browse through the posts.
Sounds like you both enjoy having the remap so at least that is two recommendations for using REVO. Cheers for your info guys.

I loved the 280 but I love the 375 even more, I was going stage 2 but they have just come out with Stage 3 which I am very interested in (and have just asked for costing on).
However onto real world stuff just remember if you put a lot more power down the train you should change oil more often (I do mine every 5k) and improve the Sparks to cooler plugs, you will need to ensure airflow is good (I replaced my filter with a revo one which gets more air and gives a nice bit of noise) etc etc, The forum can help and talk to your dealer about what else you may need to do.
I'd love a standard Cupra let alone a remapped one!! Haha shame money is a bit tight. Sounds like there is more to remapping than i first thought. One other question (sorry) do they help with the exhaust sound at all? I don't want 'fart cans' but would love it to sound a little more sporty. Or is that really looking at a whole new exhaust system?
I always assumed top speed was limited more to a car's ability to overcome wind resistance, rather than a limit on gearing. I was under the impression that if gearing were the limiting factor then you'd be at the red line in 6th gear at 130mph.

the theoretical top speed of a 6 speed manual 1.4 EcoTSI is 167mph (compared to 169 for the 1.8 which has a slightly smaller 6th cog).
However, using some rough guesstimates for drag coefficient et al on http://www.apexgarage.com/tech/horsepower_calc.shtml
The EcoTSI would need to be tuned up to approx 218bhp to actually achieve that figure!
People have mentioned to me that the frs are limited to 134mph, when the car was remapped it should have had the speed limiter removed, if you guys know who mabz is he told me that these frs can have up to 5 limiters.
To answer someone’s question about the remap, I can deffo tell the difference especially torque wise, my mpg is generally rubbish because I drive like a **** lol, if I drive normal the mpg is better than before the remap.

What map? power output checked on dyno? car healthy?
A big slug of torque low down can make a car feel very fast, buts its the up top peak power thats needed for a top speed. I highly doubt the car is limited to 130mph, 155 seems to be the german standard and I've never heard of one being 130....

Completely off topic, but cars also have a limiter when they are being transported on the back of the car transporter or ship. Apparently top speed limited to 20. 
I asked dealer if I could go to the port to collect my car, they're like no because 1...needs to be registered...bla bla bla and one of them was...it's still needs the transport mode limiter removed, so (unlike in the movies) you can't steal them off the truck/ship transport...and drive it like you stole it...

I saw a video on utube recently of a facelift 1.4 act going flat out on the autobahn, speed was the equivalent of 131mph shown on the MFD and the revs looked as though it was less than 5000rpm.
