As the title states are they really that bad?

Maybe ordering a new cupra this month but unsure whether to go for the racing brake option as it's really pricey

Advice from cupra/boc owners please

YES!!!!

They are really bad, they dont stop, mega fade, the car is just too quick for the brakes to cope!

If you can afford it go for it.

I bought a cupra in stock without them, i was going to order one with them but couldnt wait.

I regret it now

You can buy an after market set of brembos off ebay for £450

this option requires spacers and no full size spare wheel to clear the brakes... Maybe haggle and get them to through in the racing brakes

mine seem ok, certainly enough unless you are going to tracks or going 70+ in dangerous areas.
I felt they were better than my fiesta ST brakes and so did my mate.

Brembos or APs fit with 312mm discs without spacers.
And if you get a puncture, put a rear wheel on the front and put the spare on the rear.

Although, personally I think the ap upgrade is pretty reasonably priced

Depends on how your going to drive.

Normal driving there fine, but if you are doing racing stop and starts in short distances then they may fade a little.

I dont think they're that bad at all, certainly stopped me in a sticky situation the other day!! Ok im sure continuous use on a track wont do them any good, but for every day use, I think they are fine.

As above...for normal driving they are grand. If you are really powering on, after a while you will get a bit of fade...I would think that changing the pads might address this issue. Ask yourself the question...is £1200 extra for 'race' brakes worth it??? If money isn't an option, then you might as well get them fitted. However...realistically, unless you are tracking the car, I would think seriously about spending that sort of money on brakes (only my opinion). Of course...if you don't fit them, you may always regret it and wish you had!

Other equally good / better options are available though!

You are correct, but i wouldnt like having to remove the rear wheel, putting the spare on, then putting the rear on the front whilest stuck on the hard shoulder of the motorway

Carry a few cans of 'quick-fix', ditch the spare wheel and hey presto! Lighter, faster car ;)

yeh suppose your right, but i know which i prefer...

As for the seat sport brakes, i think there around £500 at trade + the wheel and tire, they aint too badly priced

they aren't that bad at all.

i've just got back from my lunch break and wasnt paying attention at the traffic lights, had to slam the brakes on and my eyeballs nearly went through the windscreen from about 40-50mph. lol!

so yer, not to shabby

If your going to drive the car hard or mod the car go for AP's or Brembo's. Its your, I would do all I could to help protect mine (Same thing as cheap tires).
If your going to buy a hot hatch and drive it sensibly all the time... go for a diesel :D

Also they look the muts nuts!

I test drove one without the race brakes and was disapointed, so I got the upgrade and don't regret it. Will be changing brake fluid though and upgrading pads too as I intend doing some track days at some point.

Well, i may have an exceptionally bad set of brakes.

But i have had situations where i knew i would have stopped in any other car.

If you want to buy a cupra and drive like an oap they are fine, if you drive and use the power the car has they are defiantley not.

A bit of brake fade is not accurate in my instance, i have missed turnings a few time trying to stop the car and ended up going past them just driving quickly, not stupidly.

Its up to you, most seem to say normal commuting driving there ok, i would say they stop you, just not aswel as you would expect them to
