Just booked my car in for it's 4 year (45K) Service. It's going into a local VW specialist that we have used for my wifes car before. To get comparison I Phoned the local Seat Main Dealer for a quote. Obviosuly the Service Price was higher but I expected that. I was told however that at 40K they recommend a cam belt change. That seem low for a Diesle. I'd expect closer to 70K for that. Exspecialy as I can find no mention of it in the service schedual.
Where they trying it on?

Yep 40k 4 yr is recommended (and sensible) interval. Time is as important as milage. Rubber will have suffered over 4 years exposure to elements. If belt lets go it big costs for repair.
If you've got DSG auto then oil will need change too

think it is due @ 60k or 4 years, whatever comes first.

i'd get the parts first from David @ seremotors. rrp for mine was £160 got it for £100, also advised to get water pump done since the belt is off. this rrp for pump is about 40 quid, got that for 25 part ex. labour for me was 75 quid from an ex Seat Mechanic ;) so I saved a shed load of notes:)

btw Oil for DSG is expensive....

First up, look in the handbook. You'll find that 40k miles is listed possibly for the Alhambra, but yours should be 60k miles or even 80k. However, 4 years is correct though.

Its my personal opinion but I wouldn't leave any cambelt more than 40-50k.
Those who have shelled out for a new top end on any car due to failed cambelt will probably say the same.
DSG oil is cheapest at Skoda dealers.....

As a recent buyer of a SEAT 2.0D the low mileage for the change has come as a bit of a surprise. As I run abouout 15K miles per year I could be facing this every 2.5 years which seems extreme.
