Hi there,

Just come on to this forum so Hello to start with I guess.

Car
The car looks stock, 1.9 PD150 ARL from 2006, with all the usual EGR/N valves etc. in place. Turbo was replaced 3 years ago. rear backbox removed with straight pipe only.

Symptoms
It won't rev passed 2.5k, its like a rev limiter comes in and the engine shakes quite a lot. I have managed to clear it with a battery off. Runs really well when the problem is cleared but it always comes back after a couple of hours.

What I've done
After a battery off reset cures it the logs taken (3rd gear 1500 to 4500 full throttle when warm) on 004, 008, 011 all look pretty good. I sent them down to a guy from the Mk4TDi forum who seemed to know his stuff. I'd post them up but I cant yet (newbie?). No codes in VCDS. Actuator test in VCDS block 011 moves the actuator in and out, how much should it move? No under or over boost codes at all. fuel treatment and cleaner after the filter have made no difference. I've changed the vac hoses and fuel filter. on the logs I noticed the syncro angle was varying from zero a bit, up to 5 degrees at 3500ish?

Any of you knowledgeable chaps on here have any insights?

One theory I had was the stationary/idle rev limiter. I've read this operates at around 2.5k maybe the car thinks the handbrake is on when it isn't!

Anyone come across this before?

Cheers

Steve

have you tried unplugging the air mass meter to see if there is any change in engine revs at start up cold or hot and checked diesel injection timing in vcds it can be adjusted manually. on petrol engines when the camshaft and crankshaft timing is wrong you get exactly what you say cant rev past 2.5-3000 rpms. diesel injection timing could be too far advanced or retarded. or faulty crank sensor.
