much more the type of answer i was looking for and thanks for taking the time to work it all out...

this is also useful in the future for anyone else that comes across the same problem and is also proof just because they are 4pots doesn't mean they are better..

i was planning on using them on my 312mm discs the standard brembo pads that are new and obviously braided brake lines ... running 312mm with oem pads at the moment.

So we can probably say that the distance of the piston to the centre is similar and the pad friction co-efficient will be similar.

So all in all, it'll take a slightly harder pedal press to achieve the same braking as now.
New pads and fluid compared to old stuff will probably counteract this, and 4 pots will apply the pressure more evenly than single pot calipers.

Seems like a lot of effort to me for not a lot of results

i have new discs and pads, where done like 2months ago..

i got the calipers for nothing as i saved them off a car and had done very very little miles thats why i was considering them.

im with you though there not uo to the job for the leon but what about an upgrade on an ibiza etc?

Ibizas use pretty much the same calipers as Leons. Master cylinder pressure might be less, I would have to check.

Be as well sticking them on ebay. They'd sell no problem

Handbrake is a completely seperate mechanism. And you don;t use a wind back tool on 4 pot calipers ;)

Searching for Aston Martin Brembo calipers shows up several pictures of a separate mechanical caliper for the handbrake, so that answers that question. No problem then, provided the disk thicknesses are the same.

There's no technical reason why you should not come across a 4-pot caliper with a handbrake built into it, although by the time you are looking at the kind of car that needs a 4-pot Brembo on the rear wheels, separate calipers or a little drum in the center of the disk (which the Porsche 944 has) aren't going to add to the cost significantly, and it is better to keep the mechanical bits out of the hydraulic system if you can.

To be fair, having a separate drum handbrake is attractive from the mechanical point of view, as drums can be engineered to be self-servoing, so that rotation of the drum increases the braking pressure. But I suppose unless it's well engineered, the fact that the handbrake is used much less often than a drum footbrake would be may well lead to the mechanism jamming through corrosion building up.

On the continent the LCR came with the 312mm single pot calipers that were on the R32/VRS/S3 with the UK Spec Brembos as an optional extra, so I imagine even if the Aston calipers aren't quite as good they'll be adequate.

Having said that, if they look the same just with a different paint job why not just paint yours to look like the Aston ones and sell the legit ones?
