For some reason the main beam Auto assist Dip has stopped working on my VZN equipped with Matrix headlights, the blue main beam warning light with the "A" is on and the lights will dip manually but on Auto assist if a car comes the other way my main beams do not dip automatically.

Anyone any idea what`s gone wrong the headlights were not exactly dirty nor the camera on the screen from what I could see.

Light switch on automatic position? Is light assist active on the radio when assisting system is activated?

Under the point Assistance Systems you can deactivate the systems in the radio or make settings. Otherwise there is an instruction manual

Well I completely misunderstood the working of Matrix headlights I had a quick read up on how they function but they actually do a lot more I incorrectly assumed they did dip as in normal headlamps but they don`t, suffice to say mine are working as they should!

This explains all for those interested!

Just to add to my findings on Matrix headlights, on Christmas day in the evening I had to drive in quite dense fog and although any main beam is not advisable to use in fog the Matrix headlights look like the searchlights over London during WW2 with multiple light beams going in all directions!

@Delanor do you get many drivers flashing you when using the auto main beam assist matrix headlights? I’ve had it a few times so I have to flick it off manually so as not to pi** other drivers off - so it kinda defeats its purpose. Amazing headlights though on a dark country lane. Most powerful I’ve ever had on a car!

I have only had it once whilst driving along an unlit country lane in total darkness and a car coming towards me with just the one dim headlight that looked like it had a candle in it he flashed me and I was only on dipped beam, there are times when coming up to a blind bend and I can see a car is coming the other way by the lights and I do dip the main beam as I find the auto dip can be a bit slow to react in those circumstances!

Hello, @Delanor

I'm having the same problem. I have a 2023 Formentor with Matrix headlights. Sometimes my headlights automatically switch to low beam when an oncoming vehicle approaches, but sometimes, even most of the time, they don't automatically switch to low beam. Have you solved this problem?

Apologies for the late reply - it is prudent to understand just how Matix lamps actually work, we are accustomed to seeing the headlights go down when switching but Matrix lamps work by reducing the area of the lamp that would affect an oncoming vehicle or when following a vehicle so as to not cause a problem for the other driver, it took me a while to actually understand what was happening but the object of the exercise is that when your Matrix headlights Auto dip they don` affect other drivers but you do not loose the important light spread when travelling at speed on unlit roads, but I do find when I am, driving at speed on unlit roads if the lights have dipped they don`t switch back to a full beam quick enough for me!

As a test of yours watch as you aproach the car in front you are following on a dark road on Auto lights you should see a lit area affecting the car in front go darker but not completely dipping your headlights as is normal.

OF course as is normal nowadays if you have LED lamps according to some drivers that haven`t got them they are the sperm of the Devil and and are far too bright, as were tungsten lights that replaced candle power, Halogens that replaced Tungsten and HID`s that replaced Halogens now we have LED`s with some manufacturers even replacing those with Lasers!

Did my first night drive yesterday, on a road through very dark woods.

Wow! Those lights are amazing! And the free light show that happens when another vehicle approaches, or a reflective object is detected, or you enter an illuminated part of the route is a joy to behold! Who needs The Northern Lights when you've got a matrix system?

I never knew car headlights could be so entertaining.
