Auto parking brake, hill hold - failure to disengage?

Had this a couple of times now, today was the worst - stopped at a junction waiting to cross a signal controlled shuttle. At the two second gap to pull away the hill hold (green P) refused to disengage when I lifted the clutch, stalling the engine. By the time I'd dipped the clutch and smashed the starter button, (A) button, (P) button and then remembered I had to hold the foot brake down before the parking brake will release, the shuttle lane was full again - everyone in the queue behind me thinking why hasn't the learner got his 'L' plates on, where's his bloody instructor?

Finding the technology in this generation of MQB platform a huge frustration in the whole, some like this might be intermittent faults but others are seemingly by design, lane assist and the infotainment system being the worst.

No point in raising with the dealership, 'no faults showing, we can't replicate in our 2 minute test drive'.

Why did you have to wait for the 2 seconds ?

As in there was just two seconds between the shuttle traffic going one way, then going to other, to cross the junction.
