Don't know never been there, assume must be back off the head unit......there is also a AUX device +/- Gain volume control.
Switch Head Unit on, select source as AUX, press left one of the botom six buttons, turn volume knob left/right, gains -5 to +5

I play my mobile phone music this way

p.s. you are using the correct sort of cable/plug aren't you.... a stereo one as used in mp3 players headphones?

Have you tried a MP3 player, mobile phone, walkman or anything in the Aux socket as a test

There's an option to turn 'AUX' off in the PROG menu on the stereo.
Make sure it's turned on!
