Was at the dealers today for a chat and the salesman informed me of the following;
"would you fancy the new Cupra R when it comes?" I said "didn't think there was one coming, and it would need to be AWD" he said "watch this space, I'll give you a ring when we get it".

Got me all excited now

It will be 2017 when the facelift comes out, R is always facelift.

Most of the staff at dealers have very little if no contact with any management at SEAT UK never mind SEAT ES. What your dealer is referring to is the rumors that websites and magazines have been publishing.

VW won't allow a Cupra R AWD because it will seriously dent the Golf and A3 sales.

I wouldn't have one over the Golf now. The Cupra is an OK car, but the Golf is a great one. You only have to look at all the magazines COTY lists, nearly every one has the Golf in there somewhere, but I don't see the Leon in too many...

All I can say is I have dealt with these guys for a long long time and whatever they have told me regarding past models has held true.

That may be the case mate but most don't know squat. When I was replacing my first Leon I looked at scirocco and the vw dealer in Barnsley told me under no circumstances were they putting a 170 engine in one, just 140....

but surely the Golf R is a direct competitor with the S3?
I would have thought VW don't care which marque gets the sale as long as it stays in the Group?
In fact, it might INCREASE group sales with increased publicity, more test drives etc....

Anyways, if VW own SEAT they're not going to give a sh** if they sell a few less Golf Rs because of an AWD Cupra R, due to the money from sales of said AWD Cupra R still end up in their pockets.

You'd be surprised how much internal politics there is amongst the brands.

Them two are marketed at different people but a Cupra AWD would be marketed towards same as Golf R but cheaper.

You gotta remember the original top golf was going a different route until Co2 policy reigned it back into what it is now. So the S3 and VR6 (R32/R36) were different beasts for different people, tubro or big NA, before they were forced to make the R20.

Maybe its about Audi/VW being seen as superior brands?

I think it would hurt their ego more than their pockets if the 'poor mans golf' attracted more sales than the Golf R.....

Seems pretty obvious to me and everyone else :rolleyes:

Why don't you just add me to your ignore list, rather than arrive late to threads I've posted in, get your panties in a knot about something I wrote days ago and then try and aggravate me with your childish wind-ups?
