Hi All.

I own a Leon 1.9TDI Stylance and when going down motorways around corners, it feels like the back end wants to drift for some reason.

I am wanting to change the tyres from bridgestones to mich's, but i am worried if i spend £300 on 4 tyres, that the problem may not be sorted

Any ideas?

Thanks

Check the current tyres for uneven wear across the tread. It'll point to problems with suspension alignment etc. which would could give the problems you mention.

if you were on a track or open airfield tht sounds like it wld be fun!!

will seat be able to tell me for free if there are problems with things like tracking etc?

Try some spacers on the back to even out the track.

Would spacers affect my warranty, my car is only 3.5 months old?

I could always slow down I guess but I llike to put my foot down. I had a scary episode the other day, was going way too fast, the car felt like it was going to go straight through a corner, thank god for ABS and quick reflexes (probably just my inexperience dealing with performance cars)..

Don't think it's the tyres, I think that the Leon II is just a little tailhappy.
Experienced the same problem on a test drive with a Stylance on Pirelli P7 and my current sport-up, lowerd and on 18"Falken FK452's wrapping much lower ET wheels.
You notice it when going a bit off the throttle in faster corners, the outer rear wheel wants to tuck under the car (weird description I know).
I think a lot would be improved with a rear stabilizer, which doesn exist(yet) for this car.

BTW the racing Leon's apparently are the most tailhappy(front drive) cars at the moment. Pointy at the front, very loose at the back. Maybe a connection there?

Ive always found mine quite lairy at the back end, this is when im pushing it round a track.

Erichuyn.. what do you mean by rear a stabiliser?

lol you serious, did you never hoon about in 1.2's etc before getting your FR?

I think the guy is experiencing whats called lift off oversteer. Perfectly normal and desirable trait in some cars ;)

Basicly it's a metal bar that connects the top of the two rear suspension points together the inner wheel can't flex so much on it's own.

strut brace or anti roll bar?

Ive got front and rear anti roll bars, no rear strut brace available yet though.

I just called it a stabilizer, but I think it's a strutbrace.
But the the top one, beneath the car there is a standard brace. The one on the top is the one I mean but it's not for sale at the moment.

Also you would lose luggage space since it runs from left to right in the boot.
