bad squealing noise???

Hi guys, the other day i was just driving along normally and i heard this really loud squealing sound like something was grinding, i didnt think much of it at the time because it sounded like a belt slipping and i thought it wasnt my car

but then

i was driving along again and the sound started and lasted for about 10 seconds, it sort of sounds like a belt slipping but really loud and sounds more metal

then it donr this again 3 times on the same journey

a freind who works for vw told me that he has heard it before and it was the tensioner

wot do u think?

Sounds Like It To Me Better To Get It Looked At Befor Its To Late Has It Will Stop Working And Than Goes The Cam Belt And Than Thats A Topend Rebild And That Will Cost A Lot Of Money

i dnt think its cambelt related tho, think its the alternator tensioner which obv is on the drive belt just not 100 percent sure, dont waqna go spend £35 on a tensioner if that aint yhe problem

try tightening the belts first then. See if thats sorts it out

just an update, i have now found that it still making the noise without engine running so it must be something that still runs after the engine is stopped???

secondary wastes pump. That runs after the ignition is turned off. Dont know how much they are. There is a price on here somewhere. I believe its located on the left the radiator as u look at the car.
