been told my tracking rod end needs replacing

how much is this likely to cost for the part? is it best i get a garage to fit it, as i'll need the tracking done..?

is it a lot of hassle to replace it myself?
i was possibly going to do it when my new front discs and pads arrive, but if its gonna be too muchhassle, then i wont both

Not overly hard, but you'll want to get the tracking done after anyway.

cheap & easy to replace, but when they get 'stuck' they will need considerable persuasion which is where home tools run out & gas / air guns work

theres a trick i do when replacing track rods....if you mark your old track rod with tippex or a paint marker to the point where the threads dissapear into the nut. Then sit it next to your new one and count how many threads up to the mark on your old one is...you can then count the same amount of threads on your new one and mark it. Install the new one screwing it in up to your mark and wolaah...no need to get your tracking done.

You can have em, they're useless to me and rubbish bookends.

you shouldn't need anything else - they bolt to big metal things so can be changed independently of anything else

my steering wheel is over to the right a lot, but its not pulling particularly bad in any direction.. isthis causing any harm to the car? :S
i cant afford to get it fixed until the 26th you see

that all depends what's causing it.... if something is broken / bent or just out of check

do you have to drive holding the wheel to the right ? does it just sit there if you let go or does it try and return to 'centre'?

if your having to hold it to the right you need your tracking re-done asap as they will be munching your tyres like crazy.

its holding itself there, it doesn't pull itself back to the centre of anything.

i've checked the tyre treads inside and out, and they seem fairly even.
i'm just gonna have to risk it

to be honest it sounds like the steering wheels was not centred properly when it was tracked.

not much of an issue, just poor workmanship.

well i'm hoping your right, or that somethings just seized in place that they cant budge on the track rod end.. so i'll just wait until the 26th and get it booked in for a new one
