Hi,

I have a 2008 1.9tdi Leon stylance, pre facelift model , it has the BXE engine fitted 105ps
I don't think the car has a dpf fitted , what is the best oil to get for these engines? 5w40 or 5w30

I recently serviced my car (1.9tdi Stylance) and I was recommended to use 5w30 fully synthetic long life oil

It's a PD TDI so you need an oil that meets VW 505.01 as a minimum. VW 507.00 will also protect the engine but is more expensive, and is specced for engines with DPF.

Just going by the viscosity rating is a *very* bad idea with a PD engine.

This Opie Oils page gives you a few to choose from. I'm using the Castrol Edge Titanium 5W40 in my BKD Altea - but I got it from Euro Car parts who had it at a much better price. If you look elsewhere, just make sure it has "meets VW 505.01" on the bottle somewhere.

I take it VW 507.00 exceeds the VW 505.01 standard?

I think 5w30 507.00 longlife quantum oil should be okay

From here

VW 507.00:
Low SAPS oils suitable for Euro 4 engines and almost all VAG diesel engines from 2000 onwards with extended service intervals, unitary injector pumps and also Pumpe-Düse ("PD") engines.

Opie currently has Fuchs Titan at £25 for 5 litres hits is 505.1 approved.

I believe your choice of service interval can impact on the choice of oil.

Just a quick question, sorry for hijacking the thread, what about my 56 plate PD170 Leon FR? It has had the DPF gutted and reading that site it goes on to say:

" Excludes V10, R5 engines and VW Commercial vehicles without fitted DPF (diesel particulate filters) – these must use a 506 01 specification oil."

That is under the VW 507.00 specification oil. As I've had the DPF removed do I now need the stated 506 01 oils or do I still use the 507.00?

Thanks.

Do you have a V10, an R5 engine or a VW commercial vehicle without a fitted DPF? If not then you don't need 506.01.

I suggest you ask the question on the Opie oils section of the forum, where you will get much better advice than I can give. But I'd suspect you can go with 505.01 on fixed service intervals if you don't have a DPF.
