Hello there

I am going to go to a rolling road in a couple of weeks anyways, but can someone let me know roughly what bhp I should expect from

16v Cupra Ibiza 98 S plate

K&N (57i) which I know will prob loose power but I like the noise. (has plenty cold air though)

Custom straight through CAT back exhaust system, no silencers in the middle.

also can you add on what you think it would go up to if I was to add a chip on there too!.

THanks
Andy

Chip don't do much on stock engine. Last summer on the RR a chipped ABF had a couple of bhp over a stock one @ a few 100 rpm higher but actually had a lower peak torque figure.

loosing the cat won't do you any favours unless you're only interested in peak figures or spend most of your time at peak RPM

Mine's perfectly straight too. But Stu / utter_hatred did say he noticed a bit more mid-range 'smoothness' when he got his done, and I'm sure Chester, did get gains, says the driveability is improved.

As for 180 its going to cost you a few hundred £. Headwork alone might do it but get some cams in too witha remap should see you right.

I didn't say you were, I was just pointing you in the right direction. Only prob you have is ABF engine never used in States, few examples of forced nduction ABF cars, most kits developed for the other 16v engines in the range.

Doesnt have to be kit from the states though is it. Could I not just source a Jackson one here? I know of a Mk3 golf 16v that has one, thats basically the same engine as mine aint it?

Sorry I dont know what this ABF thing is, I only had my cupra 9 days... I am still learning the chat......

ABF is the engine code, same as mk3 Golf GTI 16v. If you can source a suitable kit here then great. There's an Ibiza down @ Autotechnik in Southampton with some form of forced induction on it, owner claiming 300bhp allegedly, but it doesn't work too well, and I'm not sure if it's a 1.8 16v or 2.0, might be worth a bell to see what's under that bonnet

I reckon thats a bit too much power for the front wheels, if I can get it to about 230ish I would be more than happy. I am a firm believer in more than 250 bhp requires rear or all wheel drive.

Tell that to the IHI converts on here.

It's probably cheaper to buy a 225 1.8T for £1200-1500 fit it chip it and sell your engine for >£500

Mildly port the head and get new engine management and you'll easily get 180BHP with good driveability. Or fit Schrick 260/268 cams in the stock head for a good result
