Hey guys, I been dreaming of doing a big turbo conversion on my Cupra R for at least a year now. In the past year I have been upgrading important bits and sorting out little bits that were wrong with my beloved Cupra R. My aim is to get anything between 420-470 BHP. What needs be done to run that sort of power safely and what type of big turbo would make me achieve my goal?

That's GT30 power
You could hit that just with a 3071 on the bottom end of 400hp
Also be aware that adding a bigger turbo on stock displacement will increase lag making it less driveable

Could you twin charge a Cupra R?

By that I mean supercharge for low end and big turbo for top end?

You can twin charge anything.... With enough money, there are no "off the shelf" kits for this.... Not a good idea really as it would help break traction on a fwd car even easier......

Speak to Bill for his boost by gear mapping, this will keep it manageable in the fwd..... Also factor in a LSD to help get the ponies to the tarmac.

Ive got 4k burning a hole in my pocket and tempted to go big turbo however i think its just dead money, never get a return. Prob gonna get newer out the box big power plus just a map ie 335i 300bhp maps to 370 :) if u want 400s why not a rs6? Just super car running costs

It all depends on how you want to look at it. If you want to drive another generic 'fast car' that people expect to be fast, you can buy one. Or if you want to take a lesser car, and take it to beyond the realms of cars with much higher prestige, money can be spent that way.

Personally, i would always go for the underdog. When someone overtakes you in a a big black BMW you don't even raise an eye brow, but when you cant keep up with some scabby looking fiat Uno, it creates rage inside you, and you try to keep up!

Been following your members ride thread on R32oc mate.. Wicked conversion you got there!!

On topic.. I had a tussle with ancient astra gsi last night, that thing was rapid.. Don't know what he was running but i suspect some sort of turbo as he was torque steering all over the place

I'm with you on that one but when u start talking big money and you change cars as often a me getting a return starts to become more of a factor. I spent 4k on a occy vrs and lost every penny upon resale. Same as my lcr... yet when i brought the 335i i actually broke even. If i knew id never change id be commuted to big turbo route but for now atleast I'm chasing big power with a chance of not writting off every penny i invest.
Good luck tho with the build..think if i did go all in on.the lcr id be looking for mid 300´s mainly because of the fwd.

Gt30 will only really give go decent poke over 100mph, lag will be bad. If I were you I would get a gt28rs for better spool and more useable power
