Big Turbo ECU's / Fuel Control

After having a Borg Warner EFR7670 on order for 3 months i gave up waiting, but Treadstone told me they had a EFR8374 Twin Scroll T4 0.92a/r with an Internal Wastegate in stock so i've went for it.

I know this is a monster turbo and is gonna require a serious fuel supply and really large injectors but my main question is -

At what size injectors does the stock ECU's start to struggle with idleing ?? / what's the limiting factors of the OEM ECU ??

I know it's possible to run 8 smaller injectors but i'm guessing that would require a standalone ECU...

I know Bill runs a DTA, there is loadsa people on VVortex that slag them saying there hard to work with but i take most stuff i read on there with a pinch of salt.

The americans seem to favour Lugtronic ECU's, anybody used one over here on a Seat ?

The options are quite limited due to the DBW, is there any reason not to convert to DBC ?

Cheers for any input,
Graham.

DTA is great, and also has DBW support :D

When are you hoping for that turbo to produce boost rpm wise?

Hi Bill, here is a graph from a Time Attack Evo -

The engine is a 2.2 and it looks like its fully spooled by 5k, that is with the larger hotside the 1.02 T4 twin scroll. It was making 2 bar apparently.

So with my slighly fewer cc's (2.1) but with the benefit of the smaller housing 0.92 it will hopefully be abit earlier.

In this photo it shows a comparison test done at the same time on a K-Series Honda engine. Green Line = EFR8374 T3 Single scroll 0.83a/r. Purple line is a GT3582R 0.82 T3

Looks quite promising, seems to be a good turbo.

So back to the DTA's , what model would you suggest and is the DBW a standard feature now ? i know you were the first to have one on the Badgerwagen. I did have a look on there website at several models but couldn't see any info relating to DBW.

Do you rekon it would be wise to ditch the oem ecu to run this set-up.

Cheers,
Graham.

I would personally ditch me7 when doing a spec such as yours...
S60 is what I run.. dbw module is an extra module to interface to the S60 ecu. (looks like an S40 box)

Tuning options are a lot more straight forward when using a standalone which allows you full control easily.
Closest me7 software would be maestro, but for me standalone when at this level would be my personal choice. I went as far as I could on badgerwagen when it was on me7, but it was too limited and every sensor on the car was max'd out, and other devices had to be employed to get things like boost control how I wanted it. With DTA its all in one box. Does what I tell, when I tell it.. :) Works well for me.

Great stuff, cheers for the info, sounds like a plan to me.

I noticed you say DTA in your sig, do you supply them ? If so how much for a s60 with the dbw module ?

I would want to install it myself, is the software easy enough to use for me to produce a run-in map then get the car mot'd and bring it down to you for final mapping / setting up.

Appreciate all the advice,
Cheers,
Graham.

If you bought DTA ( I have been a dealer for them for years) then I could send you a startup map.

I will pm you prices

PM recieved thanks,

Will i be able to still run the OEM instument cluster ?, would love a dta dash but they cost a fortune

If i go for the DTA i would imagine i could use it to control the haldex via a boost / throttle operated output, so that will save me a fair bit :D

Cheers,
Graham.

You could use this for the haldex - SQS Haldex Controller

Badger and BDM are SQS dealers.

Thanks i have seen them before, may get one later or try and figure out the wiring and make something up.

Just got back from work so im gonna sit down with the wiring diagrams and figure out if i can wire in the oem clocks with a dta ecu.

Bill, i will let you know when i want to buy the ecu & dbw box. Thanks,

Graham.

Well i've been having a rethink about the DTA ecu, i have no doubt it's the best option but the thought of having to spend extra on the dash / dbw module at this time is a bit of a no go.
I've just got so much still to buy for the project...

So i've been researching the Eurodyne Maestro 7 software, there are lots and lots of happy customers on vwvortex running this software, even on crazy projects that will make mine look a bit tame.

So i think i've decided to go with it, Chris Tapp from the U.S will write me a map, that will get me on the road and then some fine tuning will be needed.

Just need to finalise my spec list for the stuff i still need....

Sorry to not with the dta Bill, i just can't afford it at the moment.
