Hi all
Does anyone know the maximum size of memory stick ie 8gb 16gb 32gb that can be used on the USB aux in on a fl Leon? Or if there even is a maximum?
Regards
Ben

Well I can say an 8GB Sony stick works in my FL FR, going to try my portable 500GB WD drive at the weekend !

Well I got a 2gb one in now which works fine but have looked on eBay and can pick up a 32gb for about £25 which should fit most of my albums so just interested to see if anyone had tried it before I buy one

i'm currently running a 8gig stick on my leon eco without any probs,i cant see there being a restriction on max storage space on a stik to be honest!

i tried to hook up an external 250 gig hd but didnt work, dont know if it needs to be formated differently or summit, anyways god luck:D

I heard that some Aftermarket cd players with USB input are limited to a certain size one so just thought would ask to see if anyone had tried a 16/32gb one as these are very cheap to buy now, suppose a couple of 8gb ones would do the trick though

i have a 16 gig stick and i will load it up with toons and try it for ya in the next couple of days to see if it works!:p

i think the one im using is either 16 or 32 gb. which ever it is, it works perfectly !! although sometimes when i get in the car it takes ages to recognise the damn thing !! but i dont think thats due to the size of the usb though !!

Thanks for all replies , think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get the 32gb one, will let y'all know how it goes

I'm sure it'll be fine as long as it's formatted as FAT or FAT32 (most flash drives come formatted like this as default). It won't work if formatted as NTFS, HFS or something more exotic.

The reason I chose the Moskeyto was that I can keep it plugged in 24/7 without it being too obvious and without risking straining the socket if I bumped the flash key (e.g. with my sunglasses case). The Moskeyto sits almost flush with the flap for the socket so no risk of accidents.

i had to purchase a .25 m usb exstension for mine as the usb cover would not open far enough to allow me to push the stick all the way in,was a bargain tho only 99p delivered:drool:

I tried loading up a 100gb external drive last year - it came a cropper in the Leon because it needed to take power from the USB socket, and the car didn't supply it. (I know it lights up any LEDs on your memory stick, but that's about the limit of juice.)

A portable HD probably would work if it was 12V or battery-powered, if such a thing exists...?

You would just need a 12V/lighter socket charger with USB output, something like this:

And then one of those USB spliced power cables - where one plug does data and the other one provides the power, like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro-USB-...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1301048168&sr=1-3

Personally I would only use something solid state (i.e. flash based) in a car for long, as the vibrations/shocks would not do a platter based hard disk any good at all... but I'm intrigued to know whether it works in theory.
I'm sure I have a charger, cable and disk that I could try this with... I'll have a go and keep you posted! :D
