Blue needles in speedo cluster

Evening,

I've seen a few pictures of some MK2's with blue needles instead of the standard red ones... Has anyone attempted or done this?

I can see that you can get the blue needles from an r line passat or golf r so should work with mine if the ages are similar.

Can anyone confirm if the led behind the needles are white so I can just change the needles instead of soldering new leds on?

Any thoughts or ideas welcome.
