Bocanegra - Mechatronics Issue?

Hello everyone,

I have myself a Seat Ibiza Bocanegra at around 60k miles now. It's never been mapped, it only has a catback exhaust system and a forge induction kit on it.

I slowly began noticing some clunky gear changes, like my car gave up for a second on acceleration, then revved up and changed gear roughly. After a couple of weeks I'm now getting the gears flashing on the dash (PRNDS). It starts off in 2nd, I have to rev up really high (sometimes it won't) then it'll go straight to 4th. It feels very rough and not safe to drive. Sometimes when I'm accelerating it'll just blurgh like it can't push anything at all.

I plugged in a cheap code reader after an engine management light popped up, resulting in a code P0602 - Engine Control Module Programming Error. I've tried clearing the code and it just comes back again after trying to go for a drive.

I've tried changing the spark plugs to NGK BKR7EIX also (as I've heard they can be common faults).

Does anyone have any idea whether it could be the mechantronics unit in the DSG? Is there a scanner that's able to provide more information so I can then find the fix? Will appreciate any possible help / advice.

Thanks!

Not sure if this will bump the post but desperately need some form of an answer. I've run out of funds, ideas and everything. Haven't been able to drive for over 2 months now.

Hi
If thats the only error you've got then your mechatronics is fine. It is your cars ecm that need replacing. The mechatronics usually commes accompanied by gear changes really rough or it completely blocking. Then the gear indicator flashing.
Usually it is the hydraulic pump inside the mechatronics that goes bad and it as a specific error code.

Thank you for your reply, with how it is now. It's drivable if there's no more than say 10% pushed on the throttle. Anything after that and then the PRNDS starts flashing, it'll go into whatever gear it feels, sometimes won't even change and just shoot the RPM's up really high. If I turn the car and ignition off then switch it back on the PRNDS sometimes stops flashing.

Using another scanner of my friends which plugged into a laptop and through software it gave the code:

P162400 - Requirement - malfunction lamp on active. - Permanent

We attempted to clear the codes, they just come back. At the moment it will cost me around £200 to have my mechatronics unit plugged in and tested. Then a further £300 to re-code / solve the issue (if there is one with it).

If there are any additional checks I could do to diagnose this or at least get a bigger insight as to what may be the problem it would be very much appreciated.
