Picked up a nasty :censored: chip right in the centre of my bonnet :(

Can't live with it......so gonna get a bonnet respray.

I've got it booked in for Monday - a two day job costing 250 squids (just what I need after christmas !). Part of the job will include 'washing in the wings' as silver is rather hard to match.

Has anyone had the bonnet resprayed ?....if so, is the price ok for the job ?

If you take a picture of the chip and post it up it might be able to be filled and wet sanded down. this would cost less than the respray and you won't run the risk of a dodgy psint match job

I was in the process of doing that very thing with touch up paint & wet 1200. Despite going very very lightly, it appears the paint around the chip has gone through slightly to the undercoat - white starting to come through....I'm in tatters !!...can't believe how thin the paint is....don't think there'll be any way back ?!? :(

just the bonnet you should see the front of mine it looks like i been driving around on gravel roads for the past 4 years rather than tarmach:(

ive just booked my ibiza in for a bonnet respray and both wings in black and its cost me 100 but thats mates rates. shop around £250 sounds expensive to me.

1200 grit is very aggressive for that, I would have started with 3000 or 2000 minimum
Heinsite is a great thing though

.....I was so so light with it though...even had some washing up liquid on it !

It's booked into W Livingstone's on Monday - I reckon they're the most reliable about - hopefully that should guarantee a first rate job !

I thought about sourcing a bonnet in the same colour from salvage, can't find any !....just need to trust the boys from the Garage.

I'll continue to work on polishing it - if the snow abates !.. don't think I can improve it though...a lot of money for something so small !
(but it really bothers me :cry:)

as you know tony i need to get my front bumper re-sprayed due to stone chips, but theres no point just now till they finish this new kincardine bridge, cos thats whats caused the stone chips in the first place. i feel your pain. boo hiss

I've got a few tiny patches of lacquer peel on my bonnet but hopefully I'll just be able to get it touched in

Just to put your minds at rest, Most reputable body shops use the new advanced colour selection programs and machines utalising the cars chassis number which includes a paint code, Also they have many car colour spec books which get updated often with new paint codes, You dont get bad matches these days! Its something you need to check tho use reputable spray shops DO NOT always go cheap it does not pay do your homework, There is such a company called the bodyshop directory they have a database of all rated and reputable bodyshops but go down in person and make them vow before starting the job that they can match the colour spot on or you dont pay! that goes for quality of finish if it looks like the skin of an orange pay nothing and go elsewhere! £250 sounds reasonable too!
