Back to Bowls again after 45 years, just joined the local bowling club. Getting down for the delivery was a lot easier when I was twenty.

Never played but wondered how much skill is needed in comparison to other ball type games like bowling, I imagine getting the power right the main port of call as the lean comes naturally once it slows.

Its a good game if you have 10 pints at same time 😎

Getting the power right is very important and not so easy, as the playing length to the jack can vary from one leg to the next. Also bowling greens are not perfectly flat and even different rinks on the same green have slight gradient changes. Then there is the strategy of play too, great fun and very sociable also.

Father in law played for a great many years and if my memory is correct he was a Scottish champ at some point, lack of mobility stopped him play but since the club is across the road from his he can either watch from the upstairs window or on odd good days make his way over, Is it crown green ‘bools’ you play with hump in the green and playing odd directions? Never got into it myself, shift work meant I couldn’t be there for all matches etc. Good social life though.

Crown green bowls is something I have read about, with as you say a hump that bowlers play around, must be odd playing in all directions. I have only played on conventional flat greens and that's hard enough.

Had some practice yest, you can see I need it, that jack looks so far away and yes I was sober. Partner was suffering from pains in her legs so just sat and commented on my play.
