Brake disc guard loose - help

So a horrendous metallic scraping noise just appeared on my Leon Cupra MKII. Sounded like it’s coming from the rear. I checked the car and one of the rear brake disc guards that sits behind the disc is very loose.

Is it possible to take the wheel off and cut it off without taking the disc and caliper off? Or do I have to take the whole brake assembly off to remove it?

I had the same problem on my mk5 gti mate just whip the wheel off and get some decent tin snips , no need to take off disk or caliper
