Brake discs & pads

My 100bhp 1.4 mk4 ibiza needs the brake discs and pads changing, and I'm after you opinion on a good set to buy. I've never had to change the pads or discs on a car before, so I'm unsure on what is good and what isn't.

In my opinion mate unless you drive very fast a lot of the time, it's not worth spending the extra for uprated ones.

Have a look at euro car parts. They will give you about 3 makes of pads and discs. I just go for the middle priced make and get all of the discs and pads of that make.

I've got a 130 sport tdi and I've never had a problem with inexpensive pads and discs for years

2nd vote for pagid. There lovely to fit. Cheaper brands have to be washed with brake cleaner and then the pads might squeal. I've fitted a few sets of pagid discs and pads and I'd really only want to fit them from now on. Worth the extra few quid.

Something to understand, VAG tend to use firms like Textar and Pagid (same group of companies) and even Bosch, for brake friction material. I don't know who makes the discs though. ECP (and others probably), also source parts from elsewhere, and in a kind of naughty way, brand them with their own "company" name. Now as "we" tend to like Germanic products, they cleverly use a made up Germanic company name - that makes "us" feel very good about paying a lot less and still buy "German" made parts. By sticking with companies like Pagid, you are more likely to get a better compromise of cost and product - and Pagid do seem to be branching out into the greater aftermarket right now.
