Brake pads - too many choices

Hello to everyone,

I'm planning to replace my rear brake pads on my 2016 MK3 Leon FR 2.0 TDI (150 hp) hatchback. It's prefacelift model. Car has 125 kkm at the moment, rear (and front) brake pads are still original - yes, it's very rare, to have brake pads so long, but most of kilometers were made on highway, consequently braks pads didn't get used so much.
Brake pads could still be used for around 10-20 kkm at least, but I would like to replace them preventively before, to not ruin discs.

I do most of easier tasks of maintenance on my car on my own in my garage (oils, filters, etc.). I also have OBD11 and VCDS. Therefore I'm planning to change brake pads on my own as well.

If anyone here could help me out, my question is following - which aftermarket brake pads do you recommend for this car? I was thinking about choosing ATE. But, it confuses me, that there are so many choices, also with different dimensions. To be honest, I don't know which one is correct and which should I buy as a best replacement for current ones. For example:

I already checked my maintenance book for codes, but I can't find tag for brake pads there...

Can anyone help me out please? :)

Best regards!

In parts catalog, brake pads are categorized with regard to the brake disc size, and that depends on the engine, transmission & suspension type combination. Front brake system PR codes start with 1Z? or 1L? and rear brake system PR codes start with 1K?. As you found out, the sticker in the maintenance book doesn't include all PR codes of the car and the ones related with the brake systems are not there unfortunately. Obviously a dealer, using your car's VIN, can tell you the exact PR codes and exact part numbers of the pads so you can look for aftermarket parts compatible with those.

But if you know the brake disc sizes of your car or if you can manage to measure them, you can find out the part numbers yourself, using the list I gathered from the parts catalog, Leon 2016 section. Yours are most probably 288x25 front (312x25 with DCC suspension), 253x10 rear. The attached picture of a brochure I found shows those values for 2.0 TDI 150. The brochure was for the facelifted models but I believe the brake system was not changed with the facelift.

FRONT
1 set, brake pads, with wear indicator, for disc brake

for 276mm x 24mm discs, PR codes: 1ZF
5Q0698151C

for 276mm x 24mm discs, PR code: 1ZH
>> 06.11.2016 5Q0698151E
07.11.2016 >> 5Q0698151H

for 288mm x 25mm discs, PR code: 1ZE
8V0698151

for 312mm x 25mm discs, PR code: 1ZA
>> 06.11.2016 8V0698151B
07.11.2016 >> 5Q0698151F

There are also the ones for the 1L? PR code but those are for Cupras, so I leave them out.

REAR
1 set, brake pads, for disc brake

for 253mm x 10mm discs, PR code: 1KD
>> 06.11.2016 5Q0698451A
07.11.2016 >> 5Q0698451M

for 272mm x 10mm discs, PR code: 1KS
>> 06.11.2016 5Q0698451F
07.11.2016 >> 5Q0698451L

Again, there are bigger discs & pads for Cupras, but those are irrelevant.

Thanks!! You are a legend :)

I'll remove the wheel and try to measure it in following days (probably next weekend), but yes, it should be 253mm x 10mm discs, PR code: 1KD. I'll leave a comment here with confirmation, if it's 253mm :)
I know that disc is not the "big" one, which I already saw on other Leons (on 184 hp model for example, which is also confirmed in this brochure).

If it's indeed 1KD, then those should be the correct pads: https://www.autodoc.de/ate/8938885

Best regards!
