Hi everyone,

I’m looking to drop some unsprung mass on my 2022 Cupra Formentor VZ and want to switch to 18" wheels. The challenge is clearing the factory Brembo brakes, which are pretty sizable.

Does anyone have experience with 18" wheels that fit this car without clearance issues? I’m after something lightweight to really help with performance, but I don’t want to run into rubbing problems.

Any suggestions, specs, or brands you’ve tried would be hugely appreciated!

I'm intrigued.

Why come down to 18", and not stay at your OEM size, presumably 19", to save weight? Surely well chosen lighter 19" wheels will achieve your aim.

I switched the wheels on my Ateca VZ2 last year, sticking with 19" so I didn't have to mess around with different tyre sizes, and got some Team Dynamics Motorsport Pro-Race LTs saving c. 5kg per wheel around 20%.

As they are 8.5J, as opposed to original 8J, although an ET45 were meant to fit I took the precaution of getting ET35s to ensure no clearance issues with the suspension.

Later last year, and not planned at the time I switched wheels, I changed car to an Ateca VZ3 with Brembos. When I put the Pro-Race LTs on my tyre fitter commented on the good amount of clearance between the wheels and the calipers.

PS> keeping the same size wheel / tyre combination also meant no issues with my insurers.
