Thought I'd share my story now I'm recovered. I bought my 04 seat Ibiza in the middle of July and was parking in town on a hill. Car parked fine and went to town. Came back to the car and family went to get into the car when it started to roll forward.

I know you'll say let it go but I went to try and save the car. It's the first reaction according to the paramedic. its called doing a super man. My leg got caught between my front bumper and another cars back jumper and broke my tibia resulting in leg in cast for 6 weeks with physio.

Got the all clear a few weeks ago to drive again so that's how much I love my seat Ibiza.

Have stories like that? please share.

i thought your leg stopped the cars hitting each other.

My father, years ago came out of a pub and saw this a35 van slowly starting to roll. The girl in passenger seat aged about 8/9 was crying.jumped in driving seat and turned the wheel into the kerb.
No steering wheel locks in those days !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this thread needs a video :)

only injury i've had was front a mate slamming the door shut while my fingers were in the way. ouch.

why don't people leave cars in gear anymore? its a no brainer IMO.

I agree wrt the leaving the car in gear, I do it every time!

I once shut the door on my foot while racing a friend to being first to get going - that was a bit nippy and delayed my moving the car by about 15 minutes - yes I was an idiot!

Yeah I know leave my car in gear lol. Family were always going on about leave your car in gear so much so that it was all I was thinking about how mad they were going to get haha

Also the guy who tried to reverse the car off my leg didn't know how to put it into gear so he rammed the car into my leg. Wasn't too bad a break thankfully

How come it only starting rolling when you got back to it? I'm presuming your wife was in the front seat and didn't pull the handbrake on a bit tighter once the car started rolling but seeing as you said some bloke tried to reverse it instead of your wife I guess she can't drive and it wouldn't have been instinctive to pull the handbrake on. People may think I love mine but I'm not so sure. I think mine's more like pure dodged determination. Most people would've set fire to the car years ago rather than put up with it's nonsense. She does look good in my opinion. I think her looks and the 53 mpg on short runs with a fair bit of ragging, towbar and roof bars that keep her hanging on.

I've always thought the Spanish senoritas are more appealing than the frauelins. Glad to hear your leg is bouncing back.

You think of all the things you could have done afterwards but it happened and was over in what felt like 2 seconds. And it Wasn't my wife it was my sister and she was getting into the back of the car and wouldn't know the handbrake from anything else lol. That's why I never left car in gear would forget it was in gear and try to start it lol but I do now wherever happens lol

I don't mind if you laugh even the physio said it was the best thing he ever heard for breaking a leg and I'm sure he's heard it all lol

Yeah wasn't funny at the time but it was to a lot of people for some reason I couldn't understand. If it happened to them they would have probably done the same.

Sorry to read this story, but ryanapc You are lucky, cause compressed soft tissue develops compartment syndrome sometimes, that requires fasciotomies (open dissection of muscle groups).

Top marks for saving the car (kinda).

I know the handbrake in my Ibiza is pretty poor, on a steep hill it will occasionally creep - so I always park 'in-gear'

How come it only starting rolling when you got back to it?

It's the extra weight, plus the movement on the suspension when people get in and out.
If the handbrake is abit weak the force can be enough to overcome it and start a roll.
