I went to unlock my driver side door today and the little knob came off in my hand.
I thought maybe it had unscrewed but when I put it back in it just fell into the door all the way.
The door won't open from the outside with the key either :(

Anyone know where the problem may lie, or if there's an easy fix for this?

Cheers,

Richy

I havent had this happen to me yet but apparently its a common thing... you can buy either the kit things off ebay or get a new locking mech...from what ive picked up on its a fairly easy fix... :)

Thanks for the replies.
Is it possible to take the door card off if the door won't open?

i think you can but it will be an absolute b:censored:d without damaging it or loosing your rag and just yanking it off. what interior you got?? there are afew door cards on the bay at the mo if the inevitable happens??

Can you not crawl in the boot/passenger door and then get the door open from inside, then take the door card off slowly

screw on the side of the speaking,
take the speaker out, and undo the screws,
then pull doorcard from the bottom (as there is clips)
Then unscrew doorlock pin, then lift off the door, then investigate
Then do in reverse to put back on (ps to take the handle off, there is a screw on side of the door (under a grommet, inline with where the door handle is)

the probelm is it's still locked and he's pulled of the doorlock pin suj. It won't be easy to take the doorcard off with the car open but it's one of the few options in my eyes.

ohhhh, i got ya

get some long neck pliers? (as the doorpin has a plastic "protecter" on the door card, this will pull off, allowing you to use the pliers to yank the lock open)

done it on a mk2 golf :)

probably be easier. You don't need to remove the speaker surround to get the door card off either. Just that plastic round the door handle and the two screws underneath.

pretty sure I had to take it off

actually I am very sure, as I nearly cracked my door card, as I thought it was part of the door card, then it started bending until I took it off!

door cards are easy to pop off mannn! i've had my passenger off a few times now to put the window back on the runners :|

I removed the plastic surround for the door handle and the screws beneath.
The door card doesn't seem to want to come off. I haven't been able to get any leverage since the door won't open.

I might try the long neck pliers next. Do I go in through by the handle, where I took off the plastic cover?

nooo

look at the door look pin (that broke)
there is a surround on that, should just come off (screw driver/the long neck pliers)

then pull the door pin up with the long neck pliers, should get the door open

the doorcard comes off last from the top, as it slides off the door (sits on the door, where the rubber seals are for the window)

Thanks, I'll give this a go tomorrow.
After doing this how easy would it be to lock the car again if I'm unable to fix it properly?

well you will need a new door pin (think the same as most early VW's, mk2 golf, mk3 golf and polo's)
so off to scrappy I guess

why can you not open the door from outside with the key?
