Got in my cupra last night for a spin after fitting my jetex replacement air filter which makes the car feel alot more responsive.Anyway i was slowly going my own business when some twat pulled out in front of me i quickly leant on the horn and nothing.
I miss that little barp from the :car: horn now and then.

IMO the standard horn is next to useless.

I can fart louder than the feeble parp it makes. :fart:

Got a new one from Halfords, just got to fit it.

Occasional Horn

I too have had my horn stop working on me, only once to date.

I was bearing down the outside lane at about 80 and a car with irish plates pulled out in front of me doing about 50, so my initial reaction was to hit the horn. It made a sort of half witted attempt, the guy pulls over i beep my horn again as i pass, and nothing!!! So i tried it a bit more during the journey, and nothing.

When i got to my destination it worked!, i then checked the fuse, that was fine, so my guess is it is a loose connection or corroded connectons, cos it did get heavily covered in salt over the winter.

My wife's old Mk1 golf had a dodgy horn. I pulled into a side street and parked a little way from car in front. Then she puts it into reverse and keeps coming! I am hitting hell out of the horn but it wouldn't work. She hit the car, I got out so did she, she then proceeded tell me I was at fault! (with my handbrake on, ignition off) Told her she was a silly cow and drove off.

Had similar problem with my motor after it had been parked up for two weeks while I wen't on holiday..
Glad to know others have had the half hearted 'beep' from their Leon..

Thought I was going deaf..
(Can't get awaqy with pleading ignorance now when the missus starts ranting)...Bummer.

Glad to say all 2003 my Cupra's and R's have nice blaring twin tones....:D

...So do you think you could change the cack one that's in my MY2002 Cupra for the latest one? I'm almost embarrased to press the horn it so cack... :(

Horn

My preferred mechanic at the local dealer told me not 2 days ago that with his V.A.G. 1551 (I think) he can also alter the sound of the horn. I have a loud blaring trumpet under the hood. He told me that different regions have different sounds for local regulations......of course back here we have none:D

Xander

p.s. Ask your dealer to activate the auto-locks and the alarm horn (when arming/disarming the alarm). Back here they told me about it and they did it for free.

MY2002 and it is loud sounds exectly the same
as the one on the A4/A6,i doubt if it isnt the same unit.
i think Xander is right it is due to sound regulations in diffrent regions over the world.
but then again if that was really the case then why only SEAT cars
getting the one tone horn in the UK?
what does the GTI or A3\TT sounds like?
and again if that was true then MY2003 models would still have
the old horn.

Auto-locks

MD-82

what's the auto-locks feature? on mine if I unlock the door with the key fob, then don't open the door for more then about 30 seconds the car automatically locks the doors again, is this the same thing?

Auto-lock

The auto-lock comes in two parts.

First:
When you unlock the car to get in, start the car and close the door, the doors would still be unlocked right?
Well, with this all doors would automatically lock as the car passes 20 kph.

Second:
This means that everytime you get somewhere, all doors would be locked. When you turn the car off, the moment you take out the key, all locks open. Which means you don't have to pull on the doorhandle twice, or press the unlock button.

That's about it. There was a thread a few months ago on how to do it with VAG-COM also. But if you don't have it......forget it:D

Alarm

Maybe you could tell them about the alarm also.

The horn beeps in sequence with the signal lights. Once when arming, twice when disarming. It helps because now you don't have to look at the car to see if the alarm has actually armed. You can hear it arm.

The horn on my Leon is dead too.

Just like SJFISHER67, my horn stopped working, then worked again several days later, then stopped working again.

My local SEAT dealer told me that the whole horn was dead and had to be changed.

I'm sceptical, because like SJFISHER67 again, I thought it was a bad electrical contact somewhere...

Did someone managed to correct this problem without changing the whole horn ?

Can I use a universal horn on my LC?

Since i've bought the mk1 LC, the main horn has never worked! only the alarm horn works. I can't seem to find a horn for this anywhere, my question is will a universal horn available on the fleaBay work? are the connectors universal?

If not, does anyone know how much the horn costs new from dealers?

The connectors aren't universal. You'll have to make something up to connect the new horn spade terminals to the oem wiring.

*and as usual - plenty of suitable existing threads about without having to start a new one.......

My horn didn't work, I took the light out to get to it and test the horn itself, rigged up some wires to the terminals direct to the battery and got deafened! Turned out to be the fuse - if only I'd looked at that first would have saved me a load of hassle lol!!

Wifes cupra horn went too, but that was actually the horn so stuck a new one on from Halfords.....
