Hi All,

One of my first posts on here - I'm building a Leon for the Quaife Motorsports Saloon car championship. It's pretty far along in the build, with a front end off a supercopa cup car. At the moment i'm in a bit of a fix. As I don't think the standard rear beam will be good enough for the level of racing that it will be competing at. The obvious solution would be to fabricate the floorpan of an S3 in and use the independent rear suspension setup that the cup cars have, however thats an awful lot of work, especially when the BTCC Toledo's did pretty well with a rear beam setup. I just wondered if anyone had either a copy of that page out of the seat sport motorsport manual, else a few photos of the beam so I can start to get my head round how it would have been altered from the standard beam.

If you don't want to publicly post anything then Id be grateful if you could send me a pm

Many thanks

Oli

I think I have a pic of the rear beam from a Toledo race car, they are hellish expensive and not like an OE rear beam but built like a skeletal frame. Don't think they were steel either think they were carbon fibre or something, i'll have a look back

Mounting points in a 20mm circle compared to the OEM ones from memory, and a steel tubular 'beam' type affair.

It'd be 'cheaper' to retrofit an independant rear end, giving you the decent adjustment you want, rather than trying to model the rear beam deflections and making it from scratch I'd guess. Probably get a better result too

It's not so much the money as I can do the fabrication work myself, had thought of going down the stitching a S3 rear floorpan route (which would be better). But will really limit me to where the car can be raced as most series specify that the suspension configuration/pickups must be factory spec, which is a real pain in the arse.

Really appreciate it if you could dig out the pics, by the sounds of things its very similar to the Peugeot 306 group a rear beam... tubular construction so it works like independant rear suspension but on the std pickup points..

Hi all!

I'm also trying to find some pictures of these rear beams, I thought I had some but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Any chance of a copy?

Cheers
