Burning Car !

Hi All,

Picked up my brand new Leon FR TFSi DSG yesterday in Black Magic I have had the BTCC body kit & twin exhasut fitted as well. I'm a little worried (well a lot actually) as the car was smoking when I drove it home from the stealers (looked like the exhaust) & it's smells of burning on the outside whenever it's driven. I haven't had a new car before & wondered if it was normal or something is wrong !!! Any advice ? I'll post some pics when I'm not at work & can see daylight !!

I was told mine (an FR TDI) would smell a bit "hot" for the first 500 miles as stuff from the factory burnt off or whatever. Would presume similar could be expected from a new TFSI(?).

It certainly did after about 150-200miles, just after a nice, slow maybe 8 mile drive along a country road... it actually got almost too hot to touch where the front wing meets the bonnet on the driver's side, and I thought I'd broken it. It absolutely stank/stunk of ... well things you really don't want to smell coming from your new car. Plasticy/metallic/eletrical fires.

It's never done it since, although occasionally it does the getting hot thing, but nowhere near the extent to which it did the first time.

10,000 mile later... it's fine. That said, I've never seen it smoke, or no one's commented that it has (rather they commented that it doesn't)

I would give the dealer a call. Doesnt sound normal to me.

Phew glad to hear it is normal. The smokin was kinda more like something burning off (Thought exhaust pipe residue) Will keep a close eye on things.

Yep, dependant on how it was treated between the factory and you - then yes there will be smoke from the labels and grease burning off. It will be fine after a couple more hard drives

Watch also for the flying black specks of (plastic) debris from the dach window air vents.. The Spanish clearly dont have Dysons on their production line.. lol

That's good to hear, thought it was just mine!

Mine smelt a bit of burning at first, after 2500 miles it now smells fine.

Yeah mine honked a bit for the first couple of hundred miles, just stuff burning off but it's not the kinda smell you like coming from the vicinity of your car!!!!
