Hi everyone,

Ok, so I've finally plugged the leak that seemed to spring from my bank account which led straight to Ikea PLC after moving into my new gaff last year and I feel it is time I set fire to my trusty/rusty Corsa 1.5 Merit diesel (you know you are all jealous - no stereo, seats that recline of their own accord, strange musty smell) which I bought as a money saving tool after getting the aforementioned gaff.

I've looked into various things but I think I've decided on a facelift model Leon Cupra 1.8T. I've got around 8K to play with but would ideally like to have enough left over for a remap. I could possibly stretch to 9.5-10K if a tidy Cupra R came up, but I'm not holding my breath.

The only other cars that I've been toying with are the Octavia VRS (has THAT engine, but looks a bit like a saxon battering ram) and the Civic Type-R. I've talked myself out of the Honda option on the basis that I would like to be able to get from A-B without thrashing the tits off my car. I could probably get a newer/lower mileage Octavia with my budget, but I just can't stop seeing them as the Leon's ugly sister.

So I'm really just after some tips, i.e. things to look out for when viewing them, potential problems, good/bad experiences etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

BoZ

I would personally try and strech to a R, and then save up for a few months before you can afford a remap. You will only be disapointed if you go for a normal cupra and then in a few months time you start wishing that you had saved a little more and gone for the R.

After a Corsa, a Standard R is going to seem like it's got a warp drive, let alone when you get it mapped.

I bought the first R I drove, i knew it was the car for me, i went 2K over buget because i fell in love. So in that is a warning......... DON'T test drive an R unless your going to be able to afford it.

Defo save and buy an R. I really stretched myself to buy one (even put buying a house on hold) but it was worth it!!! I love it to bits and I'm so glad I bought it as you only live once :)

Stretch to the LCR baby. I came from a 150bhp Coupe and almost wet myself when I floored the LCR for the first time! I imagine it would be awesome from a 5bhp corsa demerit!

Now I tend to drive fairly sensibly in it. It's more of a smug knowing that you've got a massive penis ext...amount of power, rather than using it.
As with any car, if you can stretch to the top model it's probably worth it. As with myself at least, I always yearn for the better model. I know if i'd bought a Cupra I'd be happy, but never quite satisfied. It was the same with my old coupes (had the 1.6 then 2.0) with the 1.6 I was constantly yearning.

As a side note to other tuned cupra/LCR owners. Do you get this sense when you see others cruising around. A sneaky smuggness is best I can describe it. Like a secret club....?

Sure other people have faster cars all the time. But it's like, not many people know what the LCR is capable off. It's a sleeper to the average Joe, and we're all cleverly keeping this KFC bargain bucket of a car hidden from everyone else.

I'll shutup now!

nothing wrong with lc`s and fr`s chaps. lcr is fast but all 1.8 20vts are very tunable and simply a custom remap and sports cat will push a 180 lc to a very nice 230+

good brakes on the lc for that power if you upgrade the pads.

they all go 300+ if youve got huge wealth:cry:

After a weekend of driving up and down the country looking at various Leons and Civics I finally found a 53 plate Cupra in platinum grey, one sensible owner from new with 15000 miles on the clock (yay!), lovely condition and drove like a peach.

I put a deposit down last night and pick it up on Saturday! Woohoooo!! :funk:

The scary thing is I haven't even picked it up yet and I've already ordered the bits for the Fabia rear wiper from my local Skoda dealer...

So glad I didn't go for the Civic, it would have driven me mad. The Cupra just felt so much nicer to be in and drive, plus it does look daaaaaaaaaaaaamn sweet.

Get R instead it comes with plenty of horses, with loads of extra such brembo brakes! bodykit! handling!
saves the time of spening money on normal cupra! and mods have to be decarled with your insurance!

Booked in for a 'routine service' at APS in Brackley on the 25th...

Just trying to work out if a rolling road remap can be considered as part of a routine service, in the eyes of my fiance

Ideal world = (soon to be Mrs. Boz) : "Of course, that sounds like a great idea!! Forget the honeymoon to the Maldives, I'm perfectly happy with a long weekend at CentreParks"

Real world = (soon to be Mrs. Boz) : "I hope your new remapped car is roomy enough for you to sleep in FOR ALL ETERNITY YOU *******!!"

After the wedding mate. ;)

yes but when mrs future boz realises that a custom remap particually when fitted with a blue flame sports cat ;) will actually enhance your economy she will be only too happy to reward your swift and decisive decision with pure love.

or of course she knows a bit about cars or more importantly car forums and the type of people that use them:redface: in which case youre buggerd

Pure love is always a good thing....hehe

Sounds like you made a good choice of car and colour. I would have possible stretched to an LCR but LC is a good choice aswell. :)

The seller was asking for £8300 for it, I didn't even haggle - it is immaculate and very low mileage. He had people desperate to come and see it so I didn't mind paying what he was asking at all.

Spent a day giving it the shampoo/clay bar/polish/wax treatment a couple of weeks back and it looks like new. There were a couple of tiny scratches on the rear doors but they polished out completely.

So glad I bought it!!
