Hi all,

Recently joined as i'm hoping to shortly join the Mk3 Cupra world. I've never bought a new car before so i'm looking for some advice from you knowledgeable lot.

1. I'm not fussed about the DSG. Tried a couple, liked it but like the manual just as much. I'm also not too fussed about Nav. Finally i'm happy with the smaller wheels of the 265. So i presume it is a no brainer for me to get the 265?

2. I'm not after a big spec. I think the Sound pack and metallic paint is all i want. Unless i'm really missing anything?

3. Drive The Deal price a 265 SC with metallic paint + sound pack at £21,735. Have the prices been this low for a while or is this a really good deal. I make that almost 23% off list?

4. Upgrade to a 5 year warranty is around £500 and the £1 K off with 0% from Seat both seem like a no brainer?

5. Finally, chatting to some dealers they mention an order time of 3 - 4 months. Or some new unregistered cars "at the docks" which are available but cannot chose the colour or spec etc. Are these cars that have been ordered and then cancelled or oversupply?

If anyone can help with any of these i'd be grateful

Thanks

Hello Charlie,

Not sure on the answers of 1 and 2 but I'd say if you aren't after a big spec then to look for nearly new. With the discounts some dealers are giving the depreciation for anyone buying new is MASSIVE... Having said this I've a new xperience on order and was able to shop around a few dealers and actually found one that will beat the Drive the Deal price. I'd much rather deal with a dealer than go via a broker - I've done both in the past but if you can't find the right price easily....

The only other thing about getting a pre-reg is you probably won't get the £1000 contribution and 0% finance from SEAT... but if the car's cheaper anyway? I would have bought used but the 0% finance offer was good for me.

I've been quoted 12 weeks for delivery of my new motor. Your spec isn't high so I'd reckon they'd find a pre-built one, but unregistered, car for you. I ticked all the boxes and wanted a '15 plate so had to have a factory order.

1+2 depend on your personal preferences. Also consider how long you will keep the car. I would guess a 2nd-hand 280 would be easier to sell than a 265.
IMO sound pack is worth the cash.

Dunno about 3

4 depends on your circumstances. If u have the cash then 0% is no brainer. Invest the rest while seat give you free money.
Warranty is good if you intend to keep it a long time. Check details as it can come with servicing and roadside cover (maybe mot?)

5 I waited 8 weeks for my ST back in may last year. Imagine cupra will be the same, maybe longer. Dunno about stuff at docks; maybe cancelled orders, overstock, showroom/demo fodder....

Out of curiosity when did you place your order? I ordered the X-perience in November, was due by end of Jan but now been told it's on the boat and hopefully will get it next week.

Thanks for all the replies, loads of useful info.

Xperience - I've looked at nearly new but for the same car a 1 year old seems to be 17 - 19k depending on whether private or trade. So a new one at under 22 seems pretty competitive? As for Drive the deal - I won't necessarily use them - I just find it a lot easier to look at realistic purchase value using a broker rather than having to ring lots of dealers to haggle. I'm quite happy to do that come purchase time but while i'm looking at new vs used etc I just need a ballpark figure.

Robin - cur: Thanks it does seem like a lot of car for the money.

Cpt Sparko - You might be right about the 280 vs 265. As for the warranty. Its transferable so I reckon even if I was to sell in 3 years time it would be worth having. If I was buying a three year used car and it had 2 years Seat warranty remaining i'd really value that. I can't imagine being able to purchase an extra 2 years for it in 3 years time for £500?

Marks Leon - Thanks. I'm more in the deciding whether to go with a new car at the moment. If I do I will definitely do some more shopping around.

Thanks

My car is one that had just arrived at the docks and was available. was just pure luck that it was the spec i wanted and one of the 2 colour choices i was after. think they just order some to get them for things like demos or dealer cars etc and if they are available then any dealer can grab it. I think there were 5 at the docks when i first looked, then when i came to purchase there were 4 including the one i purchased. Not got it yet, as getting it on a 15 plate, but means no wait time if you were not fussed about what plate it came on. So they are still brand new, just like any car arriving at the docks, they just dont have an owner at the time of order it would seem.... thats my understanding anyway.

Ocularis - thanks for the help. When you say 5 at the docks when you looked - do you mean your dealer simply looked up the stock and let you know what was there?

Also is there likely to be further movement on price for these vs a factory order on the basis they have them sitting around?

Yeah, i told them the spec i was after and he had a look on the computer to see what was around at the docks... showed me a list of all the ones there along with others that had been claimed by dealers and shipped around the country. Like i say, it was just luck they had one that was my exact spec i wanted but they were quite happy for me to order a new build one if i wanted.

Not sure you would get any additional discount, i know i didnt compared to new cos it is essentially a new car already built, exactly like you would get if you had one made. Its not like the dealer has already paid for the car and its on their forecourt taking up space, only difference is its already in the country and you dont have to wait. Worth a try though :)

Only thing i wish i had now ordered would be auto dipping headlights... as just tried out the function on my wifes new octavia and its fecking awesome! :D

RedBarchetta - I ordered mine only this week.

Same thing, mine was a factory order 2 wks ago and I was told 12 wks too. Saw an Xperience last week in Austria, looked great in metallic Brown, think it's called Venture Brown.

Thanks Ocularis - really grateful for the input.

I got my leon cupra 280 for just below 20k so well chuffed

Crikey that seems amazing! Just to check that was new right??? :)
Do you mind me asking how recently that was and whether it was via a broker or a nice friendly dealer?

EDIT - ignore that - just seen your previous post about it being a nearly new car. Hope you're enjoying it.

Just wanted to chip in with with my 2 pence worth regarding Drive the Deal.

I ordered my Cupra through them half a year ago and have to point out that they're not like other brokers who you have to deal with for the full transaction.
DTD just refer you directly to a regular SEAT dealer. I pretty much had one phone call with DTD and after that EVERYTHING else was organised with the dealership directly. (This included confirming and taking the deposit which was surprising, as i've read a lot of other reports of people saying that DTD takes the deposit and THEN refers you.)

Either way, don't let being classed as a broker put you off.

What may put you off however, is the fact that you don't know until you place the order where the dealership is. The dealership they were using when I ordered was a fair old distance away from me...
Had absolutely no issues with DTD and would highly recommend them, however probably wouldn't use them again myself unless the difference in price was substantial enough to warrant the hassle of long distance travel to pick up the car.
Other sites that do the same kind of referal system such as Carwow had very similar quotes to DTD when I was looking AND you knew which dealership it would be before placing the order.

Prices i haggled with the dealer were from CarWow and DTD... they got close enough for me to place the order there and then, so its worth getting some quotes before hand so you have a target price you wanna aim for.

Tried both DSG and manual versions , not fussed about an auto although it was quick, also the cost difference decided it. The standard nav (although I may be biased ) in the Mk3 is not as good as the one in the MK2. Sound system would mean you will also get a spare , vital with 19"s . The 18"s would be cheaper tyre wise too.

I took print outs of the various carwow/DTD/brokers to my local SEAT dealer. They got close enough for me to place an order with them. If the broker's dealership was miles away then the train ticket would have wiped out the difference!
