Hey all,

my vagcom cable as decided to die?!

worked fine the 101 times ive used it before, and now windows just decides that the USB device isnt recognised?

i reinstalled Vagcom, and it redoes the drivers but still nothing... is this my vagcom cable is dead or windows related?

i know a few purists will say "should have purchased from Rosstech", i dont want a lecture lol just some advice :)

cheers!

I tend to find Windows seems to 'forget' the drivers, but it's often difficult to properly delete them. Does it work in any USB port?

Check the windows hardware manager to see what's there, select the 'show hidden devices' as well to make sure it's not hiding there. If you see anything that looks remotely VAGCOMish, delete it and then reboot. Once you've rebooted, try the lead again and see if the driver reinstalls.

Yep, that's pretty much the drivers messed up. At this stage I would be wiping Windows and starting again, but I often resort to using sledgehammer to open a peanut, and it's rarely the only option.

Hah, i wont format, will just sweep for the drivers then... bloody thing! only want to scan my car...

Well, then you probably got what you paid for. Hence no further help is needed.

Start with buying a legit product, I doubt anybody here will assist you in supporting piracy.

i dont want help with the software, i want help with the cable... and i'd like to point you towards my first post regarding "assiting me in supporting piracy"

All interfaces (or "cables" you call them) contain a processor which is required to have a proprietary firmware (which Ross-Tech and associates owns the rights to) the "cable" itself is the pirated object. You have avoided specific questions to confirm you have a legal product, you have also pointed out in dubious words that you are using a pirated copy. So at this point there is very little doubt about the whole situation.

Why are they so readily available to buy on the net? Why haven't you done anything to stop them? What's wrong with getting a cheapy cable and the free/demo version of the software for the poorer people? Why do you have sole right to the drivers/firmware for the cables?

You do realise it's nearly xmas?:D

this is why i added the purist comment.

i bought this cheap cable to use with the freeware version of rosstech, but found i needed to be able to clear faults. and i cant justify the amount of money that the genuine product costs, as fabulous as it is.

I would like to point out, i didnt deliberately go out in the mindset to "support piracy" i bought that item in good faith thinking it was a copycat product.

i find your posting a bit obnoxious, because im pretty certain im not the only person on this forum doing this, yet i am the person who receives your negative and pointless comments.

Clearly my product isnt legal, i never said it was... as i said i assumed it was a chinese copy... as are my HIDs for instance.

In fact we are doing a lot but sadly we can't stop every shipment from China and sadly a lot of people are supporting piracy knowing full well that they are doing something wrong, this does not make our work easier. We are trying to work many routes, one of them is being proactive in forums like this trying to make people aware of what they are buying/using may not be a legit copy.

We do not like suing each and everybody, instead we try to ask for your understanding and support - similar to our support which we have provided the community with over the last 10 years. Things always go both ways. ;)

There is nothing wrong with using a dumb interface with VCDS-Lite. But those interfaces differ from interfaces which work with VAG-COM/VCDS 504 or newer - to work with such versions they have to have a proprietary firmware to communicate with VCDS. Proprietary means we and our associates wrote that firmware, therefor we own the rights to it. Also each of those interfaces which claim to work with more or less current version contain an activation/license which enables VCDS's full functionality.

FWIW, this is not a driver being messed up. The symptoms here are typical for one of those fake products which often fail due to bad quality and other circumstances.

BTW: If you need to clear codes getting a VCDS-Lite license is not even necessary because the shareware version does that just fine. In either case, just to work on your Leon (1M) getting a VCDS-Lite license is really not a big deal. Neither financially nor for the sake of getting it. The argument of "cant justify the amount of money" is simply bollocks - you can justify an illegal HID kit which sure cost you more than a VCDS-Lite license.

my Hids cost me $22 delivered... and according to http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCDSLiteReg.html a licence is $99. go figure.

I dont expect you to believe me, nor do i care whether you do or not... i purchased my version (which is older than 504 afaik) because it was £15 and i needed it urgently, the chinese copy alot of things, and frankly i wouldnt buy this again because as you stated, its poor quality and im left without a cable now because it has died.

I don't have HIDs and I have an autel vag405 for clearing faults but regarding the cable, I think we're talking about the older version, not the new one with the firmware built in, are the older ones illegal too or just the newer ones?
