Well I had a great day and came back in one piece :)

Set off was nice and early from up norf' but when we arrived at 7.30ish we had bacon sarnies and a good l' cuppa to get ready for the day.Day was delayed a little bit because of people not turning up on time so instead of sighting laps at 9ish it was about 9.30 before the sighting laps were done and the open pit day was properly open.

There was a lot of race prepped/track day only cars as well as an Aston Martin DBS, he wasnt even pussyfooting around, giving it the beans into corners. Good on him! I had a problem with a green scooby(suprised?) who was up my bum in corners at the start of the day, last thing you need as a novice is someone giving you no room. Funny thing was he didnt have the power to overtake on straights, I had to let him by, much to my amusment:rofl:

It was chilly and the temps were only a few degrees above zero but most of the track had good sunshine on it so was defrosting nicley. Its such an exciting track with such a varying set of cambers/turns/hills so is pretty unlike any other circuit. I can see why its called the mini Nurbug'! there were alot of saxos with cages/mods that were doing some blistering laps/corners but of the 5 there, 3 didnt make it passed the morning.

The Cupra did better than I expected. It never felt like it was loosing power due to heat soak(it was a cold day overall though) and the EBC Red Brake pads (once bedded in properly on track after about 3 laps) were fcking brilliant. They have a lot less power at road speeds but they are still better on the road than standard brakes. never had any issues of fade with the combo of them and the Superblue fluid. The Tyres were brill though i've not used other tyres on track so cant really comment. Still got plenty left on them too. Brake pads are scorched from the heat(proud of that lol) but as said, I never felt any problems. Did get much faster/confident through the morning and into the afternoon sessions. Keeping up with a renaultsport clio prepped for race series through the corners for about 5 laps. Another fun one was a new shape S3 who I let past on the back straight, but I kept my foot planted and it was a very slow overtake :)

Really enjoyed the track, though I found the lines on the longer "double apex" corners like coppice and chris curve(i think) very difficult to grasp. Never had any lights, extreme temps or failures, used oil (to be expected) but not a lot and I didnt have time for it all to drain back to the sump. Will be booking up again for sure!

Couldnt get any vids from car (gutted) because it was a suction mount phone holder.

Track photos look great will get them sorted when i get them sent to me.

I changed my brakes and fluid for the track day but they are a lot better for the road as well.

Tyres/alloys I bought/had on last year I just had them off over the winter, Id rather kerb a standard alloy if I was going to(I didnt afterall :) )

Ah cool, I would want to try something like this but really wouldn't want to use my own car and also I have 0 track driving experience! Haha

Do it, drive as quick as Your comfortable wig, You get used to the corners, I had/have no track day experience. It was a really busy day too.! You can hire cars fromjjavelin track days and I imagine other track day operators too

Just gota take it easy and I usually let people past even when I was/could be quicker so I had space

I have a late MK1 leon FR+ Tdi dude (and the mrs has a MK5 Ibiza CR TDi Sport), needed something better on fuel as my celica I used on track was killing me.

2 of them will have been my mates Tom and Micky then (might have had some track ninja stickers on), they were saying what a cracking day it was :D Mick seemed to struggle with Gooseneck

This was Toms:

sounds like a fun day! wish i had the balls to take mines on a track! respect for that!

do you have the racing brakes? or just standard ones? i feel the standard brakes are terrible, sure seat have made them out of old milk bottle tops or something.

Hah, cheers, I was shting myself most the way there and was nervous for the first few hours but it was such good fun And so nice to go flat out and hard into corners. Standard discs. I think the pads/fluid standard are appauling compared to what I have now. Well worth upgrading them.

hmm, might be an idea to change my pads and fluid then. can't cost much i suppose?

Sounds like all went well buddy. Would like to give track day a go some time myself. Think I would find it very difficult though to restrain myself lol. Good to hear you managed to get through the day with no major incidents. Pity you had no onboard recording equipment. Ps, standard Scooby / wrx's aren't anything special.

If you are into your care I dont think theres a better way to learn how it really works dave :)

I wasnt that restrained, I just took each corner at a time and gradually built the speeds up.

Yea, I was very releived, I actually had a moment just before the mountain when a lady race driver(not relevant, there were a few lady's driving, wasnt expecting it) thought it was a competition and overtook in braking zone as I was about to turn in, glad I was glacing at mirrors otherwise this would of happeded- flick to 3:10 to see the incident that could of happened.

Tyres at the end of the day. Not bad for about 80miles of track use

Brakes are singed but never felt any problems braking. Will be email EBC to see if this is normal or not.
